My partner and I visited Cafe Du Soleil today for the second time. The first time we went, we were blown away and already looking forward to the next time we could visit. The food here is incredible, some of the best pancakes I've ever had and lots of plant based options - you can tell they make it with love. The atmosphere is cozy and the location, right in the heart of the drive is great. On top of all that. what blew us away the most on our first visit was the incredible service we received, it was a younger man with a kind and calm demeanor who made us feel welcome and very taken care of. The experience was so pleasant I immediately deemed it one of my new favorite restaurants in the city, I told everybody about it.
Unfortunately, our experience today was quite different. We checked the hours online before showing up at 1:55, it says they close at 3, great! Plenty of time. After sitting, an older gentleman who I can assume was the owner approached us and warned us that they close at 3 and asked if we could order quickly, so we did. The vibe was immediately off and we felt very unwelcome, we felt rushed and like our business was an inconvenience to them, once the dishes were set down in front of us, all hospitality was lost - no acknowledgement to our multiple thank you's, no checking to see if everything was alright with us, it felt as if they were just waiting for us to leave and they wanted it known, right up until we were leaving (at 2:35 - 25 minutes before they close) - not even a thank you or goodbye. I myself work in the service industry and am very familiar with the annoyance of last minute guests who overstay their welcome, which is why I am so conscious not to be that kind of customer. We left feeling uncomfortable with the service we received and a little bummed that it could only hold a spot in our favorites list for such a short amount of time. Unfortunately I don't see us returning...

As soon as my friend and I walked into the establishment, we were met with a server who had an extremely negative demeanour. He was so incredibly rude, barely made eye contact with us, and often neglected to check on us while we dined. I noticed he interacted with the other tables in the same manner, but he was definitely worse towards us. My friend had finished her meal before me and her plate was cleared. When I finished mine, the server took the plate while simultaneously handing us the bill. When my friend paid the bill, he didn’t even look at us and just grabbed the machine from her and walked away. It felt as if he wanted us to leave immediately. There were lots of empty tables, so it couldn’t have been to free up the table. I’m honestly still scratching my head as to why he was so unnecessarily mean to us…my friend and I were nothing but extremely respectful and courteous towards him.
On top of receiving absolutely awful service, the food was lacking in quality and was so overpriced. While I’m all for supporting family run businesses, DO NOT EAT HERE!! This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had and I will definitely be deterring my loved ones from eating here. I really wish I had read the reviews before considering going here, as others have expressed their poor experiences with this restaurant as well.

Read moreThe food was good but holy moly this place is SO EXPENSIVE. Breakfast options are $19+. Bennies are start at $19 + $4 to add hashbrowns!? And then main breakfast options are somewhere around $23 upwards.
My partner ordered the Trucker Breakfast which was $28, and although it was super pricey he enjoyed it and shared with our toddler.
I ordered the basic breakfast for $15 and it was absolutely basic-- just toast, 2 eggs and hasbrowns. I could've made it at home. No fruit garnish, no meat option.
Everything was good- but dear lord the price! It's just not justifiable. Also the interior is nothing fancy.
On the upside the coffee was fantastic. The orange juice was freshly squeezed. Mimosas made with said freshly squeezed juice. These are wins.
No kids menu. Basic Pancakes are $15. I will not order my toddler a meal meant for an adult - lets get real here. If this restaurant could give like ONE OR TWO options for a kid that would help. But sounds like after reading other reviews, they do not like having families with young kids here. This was not our experience though as our server was certainly friendly, but Im sure it probably depends on who is serving. Our server was very nice.
All in all, be prepared for an extremely expensive breakfast that will possibly leave you feeling very satisfied (as long as you don't get the basic breakfast- definitely not worth it).
The total of the 2 breakfasts we ordered plus one coffee, one orange juice and one mimosa was $74 with tax...
