I live next to Victoria park. It's got character I'll say that. Because we are a pretty civilized neighborhood it's safe for everyone but also has its spots that need explanation for comforts sake. The bathrooms are useable but not nice . The lawn is yellow dry and has goat trails people walk without noticing the path it has cut . Interesting to look at from google earth. The bocci court's are where more colorful folks hang out . They drink , gamble talk big . Only the faces changed over 40 years. If you are like that ? You can find friends and weed there. The children's park is self policed and no party people cross the park so it's a great spot for little ones to be safe while also safely learning what east vancouver can be like and how we all get along anyways. Many homeless people set up over night tent cities . The cops are good about them and they are respectful to a degree and always pack up in the day . With that in mind try to avoid the tree side in the mornings I say . Last thing ...its an off leash dog park with a huge community of people and pets . It's a good idea if your new to east van and have a dog to bring them out even for a minute to meet the pack . In 40 years there have been just a handful of fights or incidents. that amongst so many dogs is a very good record and akin to obedience training for puppies. The only reason it gets 4 stars not 5 ? It can be intimidating before you get to know regulars . Dont worry . Keep at it and once we expect you ? It's...

They came. They left. Vancouver hadn't changed after. Yet nothing would be the same. All that remains is dreammaking and strange remembrance. Because this person is embossed on every song that was a hit that spring, in every novel I read during my stay, on anything from the smell of Vancouver rain to the sound of the crows in the afternoon—smells and sounds I’d got used to until then but that had suddenly turned on me and acquired an inflection forever colored by this encounter.
Now every time I go back to Victoria Park, when I don't avoid it, I feel like this spot where we were sitting during the break up still resounds with something totally present, as though a heart stolen from a tale by Edgar Allan Poe still throbbed under the grass to remind me that, here, I had encountered a life that seemed right for me but had failed to have.
Ah! The pain I have. We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster than we should that we go bankrupt by the age of thirty one and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to make yourself feel nothing so as not to feel anything -...
