Updated review:
Oh, man. What a shame. This was once a shining beacon of fast food excellence. This particular franchise used to be run by a lovely Filipino family who were fried chicken wizards, but they left a few years ago. Since then, it seems to have changed hands a few times, and is steadily getting worse. Church's rebrand as "Church's Texas Chicken" conveniently coincided with this drop in quality, so I'm sure that all kinds of cost-cutting measures are now being enforced by head office.
The fried chicken is about KFC quality now, with damp soggy skin and tough, overly firm meat. The skin used to be so crispy it crackled, and the chicken thighs in particular were almost obscenely plump and juicy.
The sandwiches are straight up bad now. I'll take a McChicken any day over these soggy, bland lumps. That spicy thigh sandwich (mentioned in my original review below) was so big that, when they switched from wrapping paper to boxes, the sandwiches could barely fit in the boxes. Now the sandwiches are flat as pancakes, and use bland, stringy chicken breast instead. Fries are still good, although portions of everything are extremely stingy compared to how they used to be. Whenever you used to order fries, they'd put the little fry box in a paper bag and throw an extra scoopful into the bag. Oh, well - nothing gold can stay.
Others are noticing, too. Although it still gets crowded in there, it's nothing like it used to be. The lineups here used to stretch outside and alongside the building, but no more. Not worth it unless you're totally blotto at 3 AM and there's nowhere else to eat. This place is great. The food is always nicely prepared. Try the spicy thigh sandwich because it rules. They make their own gravy from all the chicken fat and of course it's delicious. Staff is friendly, polite, and well organized. Gets rammed in there at dinner hours and in the wee small hours on weekends when everyone is wasted and wants...
Read moreHad a fantastic experience at this restaurant. Last night I visited this establishment with three friends and we had the opportunity to eat the best chicken sandwiches in Vancouver. The chicken was fresh, hot, moist, and the portion of fresh fries were very large. It should also be mentioned that COVID-19 guidelines were executed very nicely and safety was definitely a priority here. HOWEVER, there is only one reason why I believe this Church's Chicken deserves a 5-star rating, and that is because of Manny. The cashier named Manny was extraordinarily friendly, respectful, and full of life. He made my first time eating here very enjoyable, and he voluntarily spent time telling me about different options and how each one could fulfill my wants as a customer. After eating, Manny later asked me what I thought about the Mexicana sandwich, and it felt great knowing that those behind the register truly care about customer satisfaction. Manny told me he was glad I liked his recommended meal, and i must say, it was amazing. It is uncommon to find such positive employees in fast food settings, however this specific location is lucky to have workers such as Manny who LOVE what they do. I hope to travel to this location soon (as it is quite far from my home) just to be greeted by Manny again. Fresh food, clean environment, and a fantastic working staff....
Read moreHadn't cared to visit Church's Chicken for the longest time, not that it was a bad food food option, it was simply out of convenience - or lack of it - not many locations in the area I live & work. This time I found the Main St. location close so decided to stop by. The first surprise was a recently renovated shop, the name has changed to include "Texas", and the menu has changed as well. Ordered a Texas Supreme sandwich combo, and that's where the 2nd (very pleasant) surprise came. The sandwich was pretty decent! A piece of chicken breast in a spicy batter fried to a crisp perfection! Fries were also crisp, a good portion of them. A bit salty for my taste, but more than ok. The drink in the combo was the only missed mark, bland machine pop. Could be better. To sum up: Not necessarily the best fried chicken in the City, but pretty decent option. Give it a try and figure it out yourself. The place was clean, enough separation between tables if you decide to eat in. Employee taking my order friendly and helpful. I...
