Over the years, many restaurants have closed in our area, in the process we lost our go-to chinese spots. Having a craving for this, we decided to try Connie's Cook House, a place that we had overlooked. After checking their hours on their website, we tried to make a reservation for dinner, but their system did not work properly, essentially had to phone them as soon as they opened to confirm we had a table. The lady that answered the phone was very diligent and kindly reserved a table for us. We were there early, and didn't need to worry, we had the whole place for ourselves. The same lady that had answered the phone brought the menus and took our order, all with a smile. We proceeded to order a few dishes: vegetarian hot & sour soup and also wonton soup, egg foo-yong with shrimp, diced chicken with cashew nuts, braised tofu with vegetables chow mein and young chow fried rice. All dishes served in generous portions, and over all they all met our expectations. We were looking for no-frills, chinese comfort food, and that's exactly what we got. This and their reasonable prices is the reason why this establishment has been located for so many years on W4th. Would definitely be back to try other dishes. As mentioned, the service was friendly and diligent. Bring your face mask, but otherwise plenty of space to be safe. They offer take out as well, if that's your preference.

If you're looking for a healthier option but craving Chinese food, this is the spot. I've ordered from this place a few times and ordered mostly their vegetarian options, which is amazing. This time around we had gotten meat dishes. House special chow mein, fried rice and beef & broccoli. As usual, they weren't heavy on the oil like most Chinese restaurants and the vegetables were cooked perfectly and in abundance. The chow mein and rice was tasteful and the only complaint would be the beef & broccoli, because the beef was quite chewy. Other than that, it was good food. I would definitely order here again.

Last night we tried Connie's Cookhouse we ordered - Chicken with salt and pepper, was the best I have tired in Van. Egg fried rice, very tasty Chicken Chow main (plain), tasted so good Schezwan beef, I wasn't a fan of but it wasn't terrible. The curry sauce was the closest I have got to home (Ireland) texture and taste it's not on their website so I called to order a side of it, tip get two side they sides are small but wow! Of course it's not home but it's the closest you will get. Also shrimp crackers (prawn crackers) not on their online menu but when I called they had them sooo good..

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD. I would give it zero stars if possible.

I called for the delivery and spoke with the owner, and ordered Dinner for 2 Option C. The price online was 24.50. I had to ask for the total, as she almost hung up without telling me. The total was more than what would be expected including tax and even gratuity. I checked the website and asked her why its so much. She said that the price had gone up, and that the 24.50 was from two years ago, and that if I don't want it I can cancel. I explained that the 24.50 price is advertised on their website, if you advertise a price you are legally obliged to honour it. I explained to her very patiently that it is not that I want to cancel, but I shouldn't have to pay more than the website states. She started yelling at me, to the point where I had to move the phone away from my ear and even my husband can hear her yelling. I remained patient with her and explained that her website then needs to get updated, but the 24.50 price should be honoured.

She continued to yell and said "Fine I will give it you this time but next time don't order" and then she hung up on me. Is this is a business?

I understand that prices change, and it could be something simply discussed. As someone who has worked in the service industry along with other customer service jobs, I know what it's like to smile through my teeth at a difficult customer. This has taught me to keep professional and polite as a customer. Speaking calmly and respectfully to her, to only be shown such a negative attitude from the owner was shocking.

Appalled by the lack of service, I called back to cancel my order. I told her she just hung up on me, and she immediately started to yell at me again. I explained that due to her horrible customer service, I will cancel my order. All she said was "okay" and hung up.

I am not one to usually leave negative reviews, as I try to praise the good i see more. However, the way the owner handled this was completely out of line, and it is my duty to let...

Great little gem in kits ! No msg in their food . We always get great service and if connies is there she talks to us and everbody eating there, very nice lady. Highly recommend this place and they do a large take out also😎👍 Recently went to Connies Nov/6/2021 we like the dry ribs with a little garlic and dry chicken wings . The restaurant was sold about 6 yrs ago apparently the cook owns the place too bad we miss Connie she was always very friendly😊 She would walk around and make sure everyone was happy. The other day when my wife and I arrived the place was freezing! When our usual server came to ask what we would like I said a hot water bottle and why is it so cold in here? Oh it is was her reply dugh and the back door of the restaurant is open to the alley near the washrooms which were also freezing. So the server tried to turn up the electric baseboard heater by our table, I had to point out she was about to turn on the ceiling fan and when I told her she turned on or pretended to turn on the heater cause it never got hot. Bottom line buy the food and take it home unless it's summer. Oh, also the dry ribs had no garlic on them we...
