I really wanted to like this place but my first time will be my last time. I was on a date during my visit so I was on my best behaviour. Which was probably a good thing.
The restaurant was nice on the inside but we sat on the patio which was ok.
Was kind of in the mood for something simple so I thought how about a beer and a burger. Sadly there was only I think 4 different beers available with one made with prune juice. Needless to say I did not order that one. I think they have like 8 main meals to choose from so I ordered Le Burger which was reasonably priced at $25.
Big mistake! I asked for no onion jam on the burger and told the server I don't like onions but not an allergy. My date order the Duck. Food came out rather quickly which surprised me but there were not many customers so I just thought no big deal. When the food arrived the immediate thing I noticed was that the salad that came with the meal on the same plate had onions covering the top. My date noticed right away and said "you'd think if you didn't want onions on your burger they would not have put them on the salad". I shook my head in disbelief that how could they have made this error but trudged along. I had ordered it with the smoked bacon for $5 more and the even though the server told me the bacon was not in typical slices I did not expect it to be essentially cubes of ham. Not a good look. I cut the burger in half to eat and then I saw why the food came out so quick. The inside of the burger was essentially raw. It had a pink / red fleshy look to it. My date looked on in disbelief as was I. I was thinking geezus this burger could get me really sick. We then thought well maybe this is authentic to France that they cook the beef very rare. If that is true you would have thought I would have been pre-warned about that. Pretty sure in Canada it is law that ground beef products have to be cooked fully through. I wanted to send it back but the server never came back to the table to quality check. What an absolute disappointment.
Long story short is I did not eat my meal, my date shared her duck with me and the burger was just left there. When our server finally came to the table to remove the plates she said nothing and neither did we (Again trying to be on my best behaviour). Yes it was still on the bill and no interactions followed. As a former restaurant manager what a missed opportunity for them to correct the issue and do something - anything. Now I am so disappointed with a $100+ bill that I am writing this review
Like I said I really wanted to like this place but when the service is crap and the food is raw -...
Read moreOkay, let me paint you a picture. Last night, we arrived at Coquette Brasserie for dinner, and let me say… MAGIC. The place was alive with the sound of Mad Jazz Live, and ohhh they were smooth, like we’d been dropped into a misty 1950s jazz club. Think Frank Sinatra meets Harry Belafonte, yes, that level of cool. It was the grand finale of Jazz Week, and it couldn’t have ended on a better note. Now, don’t blink or you might walk right past the front, it’s kinda unassuming. But the moment you step inside, it’s like the door swings open into Paris. Not touristy Paris, the real deal. Picture a cozy café tucked in the Latin Quarter, with flickering lights, old-world charm, the gentle clink of glasses, and the kind of ambiance that practically whispers, “slow down and stay awhile.” The patio? Total vibe. You could sit there all evening just people-watching and sipping wine. And the staff? You don’t feel like a customer, you feel like a guest, like they’ve been waiting just for you. Let’s talk food, ooh, la la. I’m still thinking about it. Every bite was a little celebration, as if my palate had been invited to a private party. This wasn’t just dinner; it was an experience: flavour, conversation, laughter, and that sweet hum of live jazz tying it all together. If you’re craving a night that feels like a getaway or a date night in Paris, with food that makes you close your eyes and smile, Coquette Brasserie is where you want to be. Trust me, you’ll thank...
Read moreWe were extremely disappointed with our experience at this restaurant, despite the friendly, professional servers. Their attentiveness was the only highlight of the evening.
Unfortunately, everything else fell short. Right from the start, we were told that two of the wines we wanted to order were sold out—but only after we asked for them. A heads-up at the beginning of the meal would have been much appreciated.
The $35 charcuterie and cheese board was a major letdown. The portions were ridiculously small, and frankly, charging that price for what we received felt like a rip-off.
The dinner menu was also incredibly uninspired: vegetarian pasta with barely any sauce, bland chicken, and mussels that were utterly unremarkable. These are dishes you can find on countless other menus across Vancouver, with no effort to stand out or offer a unique dining experience.
And then there was the mille-feuille for dessert—another disappointment. The pastry was soggy, clearly having absorbed moisture from the fridge, which made the entire dessert tasteless and unappealing.
While the service was exceptional, the food and value for money were far from acceptable. Sadly, we won’t be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a worthwhile...
