A hidden gem on West Broadway - Yagoto serves some of the best, authentic sushi in all of Vancouver. Nothing fancy, but chef Yama uses only quality ingredients, fish is always super fresh, whether it's sashimi or nigiri the fish is expertly sliced to the perfect size (not too small or overly big) for a satisfying bite, and the sushi rice taste/texture is ichiban, second to none! They have a small menu with lots of good combo options as well and prices/value is very fair. No matter what you order, everything, even the cooked items, is delicious and more importantly, traditionally Japanese style - no crazy intricate rolls with 40 different ingredients doused in overpowering sauces, instead, just perfect simple sushi that let's the natural freshness and flavor of the fish be the show. The restaurant is small with basic decorations, but clean and comfortable to dine-in. Service is prompt and friendly, sometimes the chef is all on his own, but still manages to make things right. A humble establishment that serves great sushi, can't go wrong. For first time diners, would recommend to not miss out on the special House Roll, and for a simple lunch/dinner, the Nigiri + Udon combo hits the spot if you got a Japanese food craving but don't want to...

My heart breaks for this sushi place, because I know how expensive renting a store front on west broadway in vancouver is, and you have this very nice gentle loving Japanese fellow who takes great pride in his work, you can see it in the way he very carefully prepares his food, even though im sure hes been doing this for many years, he still cares about every piece he give to his customers, making sure every grain of rice is carefully pressed into place without a single grain led astray, and he quality and presentation is outstanding, the reason why my heart breaks for him is because his prices are so low, its pretty much half the price of a "cheap" sushi place thats run by and prepared by non-japanese teenagers who just pump out roll after roll like a factory. Also most of the time i walk into this little shop its seemingly deserted, so i hope people out there will realize what a hidden gem this place is and take advantage of it. Hes a kind man who takes pride in his work and he doesnt have to charge an arm and a leg for it even though hes renting a place on broadway, I hope he sticks around and continues to provide us with this amazing food he so lovingly prepares...

I'm not sure if the previous reviewer is writing about the actual place or the fact that they are probably a competitor writing a crappy review. That's unfortunate. If recommending an all you can eat restaurant that is run by non-Japanese chefs is your comeback to "over-priced" and "lacklustre" food, I would really take their comments with a grain of salt. Yagoto is the best sushi in Vancouver, next to probably Miku or Zen, but their sushi is prices that would have been charged at a sushi place out in the burbs (not in kits!). Their service is always friendly and lovely, the chef always says hello when you walk in, and it's a quaint wonderful place that is hidden away. Take-out is awesome, no mushy sushi when you get home, and all the ingredients are amazing quality. Trust me, just try it, and you'll understand why the reviews are so consistently high. I just need them to open another location on the other side of town - otherwise I would probably eat there at least...

Again trying to check out places by “good reviews” hoping the reviews are real!! So definitely all the sashimi/sushi were fresh unfortunately the rice amount being put on the sushi rolls are extreme!! Who knows maybe I am just being too harsh and spoiled by kaide sushi where they put so much effort in to every roll..🙃 to conclude: I would recommend ordering sashimi here, but non of the rolls we tasted will make me come back. Just not a big fan of sushi places using “Costco’s” smoked salmon on their rolls rather then raw salmon, just doesn’t do it and is NOT tasty.

I just had probably the best sushi in town!!!! The atmosphere is so authentic, I felt like back in Japan, where the best sushi places are always the most hidden and simple. I really enjoyed and definitely will be back soon. Lucky I work 2 mins away. Highly recommend this sushi place!!!!! 10 out of 10 ✨
