Hats off to Heroes (literally... Take your hats off!) Been my regular for about a year now. Staff are spot on and always take care of me. I have seen a few parties come in and walk out because they didn't know they could walk right in. Seen a few comments on here that folks sit down and have to wait a while to get service... I personally don't mind heading to the bar to collect my own beer if it's busy or if the staff are enjoying a bit of banter. Would have loved to see one of the shuffleboard tables functional but understand that space is a commodity in Vancouver. Dartboards need an update (which I'm told is happening). Be good to see a league for darts/pool/foosball over here. If you see me playing darts feel free to join in for a game 😉 Probably best to call ahead if you plan on going on a Monday to see if they are open.

Simply put, an amazing bar. Spacious and cosy. Can really feel the labour of love in the renovation and making this legion/bar feel connected and honouring the past and bringing it to the future. Welcomed with a big (mask covered) smile and felt at home. Games room and loooong communal tables are unique to Main, and much needed. Beer is well looked after and the Hero's Lager is spot on. Aside from food needing a little work (it's not for a meal, it's a slap-dash sustenance to stop a hangover) this place is perfect.

Wow the food here is amazing and there were lots of fun games to play! Darts are free and they have so much more pool, pinball, skee ball. It was great! They also do a meat draw every Saturday and they did some musical chairs while we were there if you volunteered and they were randomly handing out free merch too! Super fun place and the pizza was on par with some of the fancy places I've been if not better!

This review is from 2022 (I deleted a photo so the date and time changed)

I like this space! 🙂

This was the 2nd time I have been to Hero's Welcome and it won't be my last. Both times I was pleasantly greeted by staff upon entering. Last night my husband and I went there to play darts. There were people sitting in the dart table area and the host graciously asked if they could slide over a little to give us some table room. I really appreciated his efforts to accommodate us!

Darts: They have new blade 6 boards up and the dart area was well set up... The boards were nice and bright. The chalk boards were difficult to write on/see clearly and there weren't any erasers. Perhaps the bar could put up new chalk boards that can be written on clearly, and are a little bigger than the ones that are currently up? I did noticed an outlet near the left board, so I may just bring my tablet next time and use a scoring app...I'd have to check to see if there is free wifi. Update: There is Free wifi and the tablet worked great, still, replacement chalk boards would make it easier for all playing darts.

Ordering Drinks: If you are going there for the first time, order at the front of the bar. The first time we we there, we thought we were in line at the side corner of the bar, but it wasn't the ordering spot.

In Conclusion: Overall the space is great!! They played a fun mix of popular music from different eras and genres. The place is clean/well kept. and has a fun relaxed atmosphere. Staff are friendly and...

It's. So. LOUD. Every time I go to Hero's Welcome when people are there, the same thing inevitably happens: People talk louder than the music, the music gets turned up, so people raise their voices louder than the music again, and then the music gets turned up again. I thought going here on a Friday afternoon before work got out would save me from this, but I was sorely mistaken as a baseball game at the nearby stadium had just finished so the place was quickly packed to capacity. It sure would be nice to go here and not leave 40 minutes later with my ears ringing. It's not an unrealistic expectation to not have to scream at the person beside you to have a conversation at 4:30pm, especially when there's tables still on the dance floor, everyone is seated, and the music is all standard radio fare. What purpose is the music even serving in that scenario?

The food is standard bar food, the drinks are standard bar drinks. Every time I go there's bar service only, but it seems like they do table service at some point maybe. They ID everyone at the door like they are a nightclub even though they are a for-profit former legion that can't decide whether people should be wearing hats or not.

Games room is well maintained. Pay parking is limited out front but there is a decent parking lot in the rear that is...

My only complaint is that you have to be a hero to dine there, or so I have been told. I decided that the only way I could taste their hero food, was to lie. So upon entry I fabricated a backstory of woe and intrigue. I dawned the mask of “Gerald Thinkerbottom, world renown inventor and surgeon” I spent my time healing sick children in war torn developing nations, and inventing new ways of purifying water through the power of wind and solar. I release all my inventions for free, which makes me a target for the rich corporate elite, so I have to move from place to place quickly as to avoid their bounty hunters.

They seemed to have bought my elaborate ruse, and led me to a seat. Boy was I glad I lied, the food is great, though they seemed to start suspecting I was not who I claimed to be. I had to double down on my lie, faking phone calls, and stating more outlandish tales whenever I had the chance. I paid in cash so that they couldn’t track my actual name through my Card. With my persona in place, I can now visit in the future without worry.

Food...
