Really disappointing service for our dinner. First we had to flag our server that we were ready to order as we were waiting a while. Our apps arrived promptly but the orders for our mains got messed up. We were waiting 30 minutes while two other tables that arrived after us got their mains served first! And our server never bothered to inform us that our food was delayed. We had to ask her what’s going on and she said something about the orders got messed up. What made it worse was that when our mains finally arrived, our server was about to place the long awaited special roll in front of my daughter and she suddenly took it away to back in the kitchen - without any explanation!! I had to go up to her to ask why she took it away and only then did she explain that she forgot to put in my daughter’s request to omit the unagi sauce in the roll! When she finally came back with the remade roll for my daughter she apologized. Another server apologized for our delayed orders too. We thought perhaps they might make it up with a free ice cream or something for our daughter but no, nothing. Just empty apologies and a major chip on our shoulders! Was the server inexperienced or something? We’ve been coming to this restaurant every year and this was by far the worst service. I really hope it was a...

We were pleasantly surprised to find this charming and inviting Japanese restaurant while walking down 4th avenue. On this Saturday, we were deciding whether to dine out or head home and cook a meal, but sometimes, we just don't feel like putting together an elaborate dinner.

To make the decision easier, we agreed to try anything other than Ramen or fast food. We came across this restaurant by chance when we saw the sign advertising a $6.95 happy-hour California Roll special. This seemed like a safe choice, so we decided to give it a try.

We ordered 3 sushi rolls, chicken karage, and 2 appetizers, and were seated in a unique cubicle-like table setup. The ambiance was very Japanese and cozy. Our total bill, including gratuity, was just over $60 for the whole family.

While this may not be the high-end Japanese restaurant you would take a client or date to, it is a great option for a family gathering or a casual night out when you want to feel cheerful and relaxed.

Interestingly, if it weren't for the $6.95 happy-hour California Roll special, we may never have discovered...

I like Hi-Nippon for lunch and dinner. We come here when we are hungry for sushi. This time unfortunately the service was really slow. There was only one waitress serving the tables. We were hungry and it took her a while to approach our table. And on top of that, there was an old lady on a table next to us complaining. They gave her a sushi roll and it had cucumber and according to her, it was very spicy. She kept saying that she couldn't eat spicy food because she had a heart condition. And they paid more attention to her because she was a regular at the restaurant. We didn't mind that they were paying her more attention. What we minded was the fact that the old lady was very obnoxious and loud about it. They served her very quickly. We ordered and waited a while for our food. We ordered tea and water but only got tea. Our server forgot the water. Overall the food was good and tasty. The service was slow and it took a long while to get our food. But we will...

I recently dined at this Japanese restaurant, and I have to say, it’s far from authentic. I ordered the Oyako Don, which was incredibly salty and soaked in soy sauce, making it unpleasant to eat. Along with the donburi, I tried a few different types of sushi. The toro and hamachi sushi were acceptable, but the ikura sushi was terrible. It had a strong fishy smell, and it seemed like the ikura had been sitting out for a while. After one bite, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. The saba sushi was equally disappointing. They torched the surface, which gave it an overpowering burnt smell that completely masked the natural taste of the saba. I have no idea why they thought burning the fish was necessary, but it resulted in the worst saba sushi I’ve ever had. Overall, the food quality was subpar, and it didn’t live up to the standards of authentic Japanese cuisine. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for an authentic Japanese dining experience.

The quality here is bad. The miso soup is just from instant packets, I made better original miso soup than them. Those instant packeted miso soup are usually very salty. The water used for the soup also had some foul taste. The California roll was not even made well. You can see in my photos that it broke... what sushi chef did you hire? The food is also not worth the price. The aburi lunch set in the photo costs $17.50 CAD. You are looking at max $10-12 in a good restaurant in Tokyo. The restaurant has rather nice and cozy environment. It looks like they do a good job on the exterior impression, but the interior (i.e. food quality, etc) is poor. Despite some reviewers complained about the servers being inattentive, I can understand perhaps because the servers are actually from Japan, where you have to raise your hand or say すみません to get their attention to come over.

We visited yesterday, and I had a Bento box with a California Roll. The interior decor is plain, with no pictures on the wall, and the tables are nicely spaced, with individual "rooms" for some privacy, if preferred. The service was excellent. The Bento box is nicely presented, on a tray with multiple small dishes. I particularly enjoyed the teriyaki Salmon and the Salmon and Tuna sushi. The Miso soup could have been warmer, and the chicken was not a helpful addition to the meal. We were there at a busy time, and the take-away/delivery business was very active. This restaurant is good value, and we will return again.
