Madame Danh is a great new contemporary Vietnamese restaurant located at Fraser and 25th. The decor is modern with clean lines and similar to Scandinavian stylistically but with warmer tones, fresh flowers and photos of Vietnam on the walls. WIth not that many seating options, it won’t be long before they’re busy every night!
The service here was great. Our server was really friendly and was more than willing to go through the menu, talk about what complimented each other, and make recommendations for portions. It felt more like talking to a friend as we planned the meal out for the table!
The food was really fantastic. The menu is a simplistic one page, with five starters, seven mains, a dessert and a few drink options. No flipping through hundreds of pages. They’ve picked certain dishes and do a great job of them. Appetizer wise, the caramel garlic chicken wings were a real highlight - they have a great sweetness to them and come topped with roasted garlic - seriously awesome! The spring rolls were made fresh, and they were light and crispy, a great way to start the meal. For the mains, the Pho Bo was a classic, and we got it served with the special which was a bone marrow that only elevated the flavour further. Crispy duck noodles and squid ink fried rice were also amazing. I’ve never seen fried rice with squid ink which was really cool. The crispy duck was perfectly cooked too.
As a drink, the butterfly pea sugarcane was our recommendation, especially if you like drinks with some sweetness. Without being overpowering, it has flavour, and comes with a purple ube colouring that has nice presentation value. The dessert of the panda temptation is like a Chinese donut, but the sauce is what made it tasty. Not necessary to enjoy the meal but we enjoyed it a lot!
Overall, this restaurant serves a great meal - delicious, great service and great location with easy parking. We will definitely be coming back to try some of the other items! And hopefully they aren’t too busy for us to get a...
Read moreNice little place, very clean and organized. (Well it's new, I hope they maintain it well!) The staff are quite earnest but I would say inexperienced. The menu is very small and the prices are higher than average. I think all mains are well past $20 and the appies are nearing that mark. However, the food is dang good, we tried the grilled octopus, big thumbs up! Awesome. The squid ink fried rice was also equally delicious. Yeah, I've had stuff just as tasty at the finer Chinese restaurants, but no complaints about this. Great texture, good taste, every grain nicely separated. Also had the pho bo and a duck soup noodle. Nothing spectacular or mind blowing but still very well done. (How can you surprise me without making it something other than pho? Then I would complain it ain't pho...) I would qualify the broth as lighter taste, it lacks that super intensity of MSG charged broths. If you cook yourself, you know this is how things taste. Unfortunately, I suspect more than a few guests with blown out taste buds will complain that it's bland. The only issue here is really the higher prices (but to be honest, given the quality and average prices of decent quality restaurants in Vancouver, this is not unreasonable) and the very limited menu. I could see myself coming back a couple more times but then we will have polished off the entire menu and subsequent visits will only happen if/when we get another craving for one of those items. This is not your "everyday" pho joint. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this place. Worth a...
Read moreI live nearby but it took me so long to be here. Partly because I find that their price range is higher than it should be in the area; while the restaurant from outside look modest and not elevated to give me the feeling of a "dining." Finally I tried.
And I'm glad I did. The food tastes much better than I expected. I had the crispy duck noodle. The dish looks simple and underwhelming, but it tastes very good! The fish sauce tastes very authentic and yummy like I usually had in Vietnam (southern taste).
The service, though good and pleasant, was not attentive. At this price range, there should be some level of check up to ensure water, or any other needs can be met. I had to waive and call for attention, she was mainly at the counter and chatted with other customers for so long. However, once it's communicated, my requests were handled with efficiency and smiles.
I'm excited to go back, and to tell my friends about this Viet resto.
By the way, the sitting for my single table is weird- they place my table between the two cushions, very uncomfortable to sit. Since it's a lunch time and not many people, I had to move the table myself in order to be able to sit nicely to enjoy my food. If there were people on the next tables and I couldn't move mine, I would feel very frustrated, my experience would be not...
