Extremely satisfying!! Spare some time and read this review to enjoy the best combos at JJ DOSAI I have tried the following things at this place and they taste absolutely amazing, especially if you're from South India like me, you will relate. The items are:

Rawa dosa (crispy textured dosa) Rawa masala dosa (with potatoes filling) 3.Mysore masala dosa Plain ghee dosa Peanut chutney (sold separately $1.5)

I don't usually write reviews but there is a serious lack of good dosa joints in Vancouver.

House of dosas, dosa factory and etc. These places have dosa with horrible tasting potatoe fillings accompanied by very bland tasting chutneys.

JJ DOSAI, on the other hand, man, if you're a South Indian, I'm sure you will find the dosas I mentioned above, with the peanut chutney (star of the show), and tomatoes chutney absolutely delicious. this combination will remind you of the food back home. Very delicious!!

I hope more people discover this place and try out their dosas with peanut chutney because this place needs more recognition. This way the authenticity of South Indian taste can spread here in Vancouver. Hopefully my review convinces you all to try the food...

Hands down, one of the best South Indian food I had in all of North America!! (May be a bit exaggerated, but why not). So, this is a small restaurant, if you are worried it might be crowded, give them a call and ask for a reservation (that’s what we did!). Also, it takes a bit of time for the food to be prepared, so be patient.

We opted for the South Indian classics, idly vada, masala dosa, filter coffee and masala tea (not sure if this would classify as South Indian) and for the fun of it, potato samosas (reminded me of the good North Indian Chat). The food is served warm and with a lot of ‘maryada’ (could be loosely translated to respect in English). It was good, and to be honest, they have spoilt South Indian food for us anywhere else (until we find something on par or exceeds expectations). Thank you!

The reason for this could be also that I’m a little too homesick (that always make someone biased). But as the other reviewers said, it not just me!

So, if you want to try good South Indian food that intersects the taste of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Sri Lanka. Give this place a try. For a place that is a few thousand miles away from its roots, this could be...

Best South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes in Vancouver !

A small place for South Indian and Sri Lankan dishes at a reasonable price. Found String Hoppers in their menu and hopped in to try that out.

String hoppers were fresh, but the gravy given was average. So I mixed it with Chicken curry I have separately bought and tasted great.

Tried their Lamb Shahi Korma with rice and parata. That combination was delicious. Parata was great with Andhra spicy lamb. It’s a complete portion as curry comes with rice and parata.

I love their rasam too. It’s a spicy soup that will touch your soul. A must try !

Tried their idli, sambar, chutney with vadai. Great in taste. Loved the flavours and freshness.

I always end my meal with their masala chai - tea comes with milk, ginger and cardamom. Sugar is given separately for us to add to tea based on our taste.

I felt their curry varieties must be one of the best in Vancouver with...

Been for a few meals at J.J Dosai. They're a South Indian restaurant (Thanjavur) with some Sri Lankan dishes (kothu roti and idiyappam). Service was friendly. They offer a 10% discount when you follow them on Instagram. There’s a different daily special ($7.99-$9.99). We were asked for spice level; medium had no kick. - Pappadam - complimentary. Tasty - Naan ($2.25) - reminded me of the naan you buy at grocery stores - Prawn maharajah ($14.95 for 6) - slightly thicker batter. Needed a dipping sauce - Goat keema dosai ($16.49) - minced goat masala, sambar and two chutneys (coconut and a mild tomato based). Good portion, excellent coconut chutney. Stick with the dosas - Lamb biryani ($17.29) - a couple of good sized lamb chunks but overcooked. Skip it - Chicken kurma ($19.49) - came with rice, roti and pappadam. Curry was bland - Fish molee curry ($20.09) - basa fish was tender. Okay but lacked bold flavours
