I went there primarily for the Wonton, BBQ pork, noodle soup. It didn't disappoint. Chewy noodles, great tasting broth and big wontons - at least 5 or 6 in a bowl, lean Chinese char siu...It tasted exactly like how I remembered eating it as a kid. Loved it!😍. ***Note: all the Wonton is made by hand in house*** Also had the Ginger Beef, ... Loads of flavour and so yummy. We also got the sweet and sour pineapple pork and Singapore curry noodles. No surprises there and all good too. Free bottomless Chinese tea. Had a great and attentive service. All the staff spoke English and were very kind and nice. 👍👏 Some minor cons: - Floor is kinda slippery... Looks clean enough tho. - bathrooms looks wet everywhere but I've seen a lot worse. Notes: If you want to reminisce about the old days of good Hong Kong food ... bustling kitchen and fast service this is the place. Even the decor hasn't changed much since the 70's/80's... It's become one of my hidden unassuming gems of Vancouver. I would go back there again. Just leave your snooty expectations out the door. Btw... There's a tiny dinosaur toy hidden behind the cashier... See If you can spot it. (not your typical Chinese restaurant decor 😄)

After all these years I finally got around to trying On Lok. This place seems like a neighborhood institution. I find the red & white checker table cloths charming. It's like they borrowed them from a nearby Italian restaurant. I ordered the beef & vegetable Chow Mein. I had the choice between regular broccoli or bok choy. I chose the bok choy. Also ordered a dry apple cider. Food took awhile to arrive. There was a birthday party and they ordered lots of food. When my order arrived I was surprised how big the serving was. Quite a lot of meat & veggies. Noodles were a bit hard, sauce was a bit on the salter side. Beef tasted fine. All in all still tasted okay Service was very mediocre. What you would expect from a Chinese resto. Would I come back here ? Sure.

Haven’t been back here since the early 90’s and it was like stepping back in time. Tasting the bowl of wonton noodles was a bit nostalgic…there are definitely better options out there, but the On Lok version is the version I grew up with when there was more pork than shrimp in the wontons. I can’t say I was disappointed. If anything, I’m impressed the food tasted how I remembered it! Thanks On Lok for staying the same! Update: I returned for another dose of traditional-Cantonese style wonton soup noodles and a curry beef brisket on rice and it was so comforting. Great value. Hope this place sticks around.

I was going to give one star or even zero if it was possible, but the food was good, so thats why. I moved to the area and was craving for wonton soup, i took my family and the service was terrible! The place is dirty, the plastic covering tables is greasy, the tea they served us tasted like mold and the condiments they leave at the table are probably there since the 80's. Is constantly people screaming at each other, phone ringing, dishes banging, etc. Because i was craving for wonton i asked what was the feeling inside and the server rudely told me "MEAT", i asked which kind of meat because im allergic to shrimp and she said "yes yes meat". took the menus, Turn around and left me talking alone. Me and my family were left with a question mark on our heads. I felt sooo unwelcome on this place that i was imbarrassed to make questions even though it was for my health. She brought the wonton and SURPRISE, it was shrimp! So i called her and told her "i asked if it was shrimp, i cant have it because im allergic". She turn her eyes and yelled at me that she had explained to me that it was meat and shrimp mixed (im sorry, she didnt say that) and took the plate spilling all the soup on the table, so aggressive!! Than she told me the wontons and the egg roll all had shrimps and i ended up having the plain soup because i was afraid of making more questions. Me and my family even laughed together about how surreal it felt being in there! Nobody smiled at us, nobody asked if we needed anything else. didnt even serve water or drinks, anything. While we were eating she trow the bill at the table all in chinese. The soup was good and my family had the porc barbecue and they liked, but the service was the worst i ever had. And look, i never gave a bad review before, im a really patient person and also work with customer service so i know how stressful it can be, but this was really out of the blue. I asked my husband to pay at the cashier and he didnt give tips because of how they treated me and when we left everyone was looking at us and even though we were saying "thank you! have a good night!" NOBODY reply us, just looking at our face madly. i felt they really wanted us to leave and never come back so thats what we gonna do.

(and not because of the food, the...

Two of us dropped in last night at about 10pm ,tried a few other places before but they were all closing. I ate at On Lok once or twice back in the 80's and seemed to recall it being pretty decent ,authentic Chinese Food. What I had hoped would be a nostalgic and pleasant dinner wasn't. What A Disappointment!!! The place looked rundown and unclean, the staff were explosively yelling in a loud and arguementive manner in both Chinese and English at random times to both customers and each other. The agressive waitress spilled the 10 wonton soup as she brought it to our table ,no apology of course(at this point none was expected). When what appeared to be a father and son left an almost untouched plate of food at their table as they left,we felt a little more uneasy about what our food was going to be like. The House Special Crispy Noodle Chow Mein was terrible-meat and vegetables tasted old, sauce wasn't good and the noodles weren't very crispy. We ate about half of it and that was about all I could get down. When the Fried Chicken with Lemon Juice came it was very messily arranged on the plate, chicken had more batter than chicken and was sitting in about 3/8 of an inch of greasy ,lemon sauce. I didn't even try the chicken. When we went to pay the $50 bill, the waitress actually walked up to our table and looked hurt when she asked why we didn't enjoy the food. I said it was awful, she asked if there was too much lemon juice. I thought she might be joking. Defintely won't be back. There's lots of other real good Chinese restaurants to...
