We arrived at the red Wagon around 11am. We had our 3 year old twin boys who were starving. We were quoted 35 minutes... after an hour of me harassing the hostess we finally sat down shortly after 12. I ordered the two egg breakfast with sausage... my hubby ordered the trucker. As everyone was getting their meals the portion sizes were huge. When we received our food 35 minutes later we were incredibly unimpressed with the size we had received. So we ordered another pancake from our server. The scrambled eggs my hubby received were runny and undercooked so we asked for new ones. The food was pretty good however over-priced for what you got. After the server and hostess both telling us an extra pancake would be a few more minutes I finally decided to cancel the extra $3 pancake as were all finished eating. When I got my bill and the pancake at the same time I asked my server to take the pancake off the bill since we didn't have time to touch our pancake. She was incredibly rude and asked what I expected as they were busy and 20 minutes is normal for food to come out. She handed me the debit machine. When I handed it back she slammed the receipt on the table and walked away without saying a work.. No thank you... No have as nice day... nothing. Now I work as a server and have for over 10 years. I've worked at fine dining restaurants, nightclubs and family establishments. No matter where I worked my service was the same, accommodating and friendly. I was so disgusted at how this server handed herself even AFTER I tipped her. We asked to speak to the manager and told her about our treatment. My hubby started getting heated so we left right after. It's so hard to find decent service these days with half ass servers who can't seem to do their...

We all know red wagon for breakfast, but if you haven’t gone for the dinner menu you are seriously missing out! Brad and team are serving up an amazing rotation of seasonal comfort food that will knock your socks off — skip the brunch lineup and walk right into this spot for dinner most nights of the week!
Last night we had an amazing in house made French-style pate/terrine, following by a Caesar salad (complete with house smoked lardon), then we shared the steak frites with brined peppercorn + the pork cheek bourguignon — the pork cheek, just added to the menu, quickly became the STAR dish to fight over when sharing.
Prior to this visit I had the smash burger and the bistro (wet) burger and both were fantastic. I will put red wagon’s burgers up against any Vancouver burger establishment (I’ve tried them all) for the WIN. My take is that they aren’t trying to copy other’s burgers styles and are just having fun bring you what they like so you can join them in burgerville.
Also a wicked cocktail and beer selection, and I haven’t even mentioned the dessert. Butterscotch custard is one of my favs but the creative assortment of milkshakes will always set you straight too.
So… go support a real local business, put your money in a real neighborhood and real local team, and be happy eating awesome food made from scratch that leaves you feeling fully satisfied and is still worth...
Read moreBeen to Red wagon off and on over the years from their original location on the corner of Garden Drive to their current spot. It’s always been a good restaurant that draws long line-ups for their breakfasts but seems to struggle a little drawing people for dinner. That really should change.
I went there last night for dinner and what I had was seriously top-notch. I ordered the steak frites and honestly it was of the best I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked medium rare steak with a peppercorn sauce and well seasoned crisp fries. Had some homemade mayo on the side that made the fries even that much better. Washed it down with a glass of their house red….perfecto! I regularly host business dinners downtown at some of the top rated restaurants but non of them could have done a better steak than what I had last night (not to mention it would have cost $20 more.) My friend’s dinner was equally delicious. I’ve already decided that I’m going to have to return to try their pork cheek bourguignon.
Although it’s a really inviting and ambient lit restaurant there’s something about it that makes it feel just a little cold at night. Not sure if it’s just the open space or the large windows but it feels like it lacks some intimacy for dinner dining (something they did so well at the much missed Wagon Rouge) Maybe one of the reasons why people think of it as being more of a breakfast restaurant and not a dinner restaurant 🤷♂️
Red Wagon really does some great cookery. I encourage everyone to try it for dinner and not...
