While on a brief family visit to Vancouver, we had the pleasure of dining at Sula Indian Restaurant on Davie Street—a choice preordained by our daughter, who had earmarked this spot from her previous visit. Her instincts proved astute, as the experience unfolded into a delightful journey through the nuanced layers of Indian cuisine.

From the outset, we were warmly welcomed by Sahil, our host for the afternoon. Despite his youth, Sahil exuded a rare blend of professionalism and heartfelt hospitality. Attentive without being intrusive, he remained consistently engaged with our table, ensuring our comfort with genuine care. His demeanor was both commendable and refreshing, setting an exemplary tone for the entire dining experience.

The culinary voyage commenced with a medley of starters that were, in a word, exceptional. The papadums were crisp and fragrant, serving as the perfect prelude. The Avocado Papdi Chaat was a masterstroke of fusion—vibrant, tangy, and artfully balanced. The Makhani Burrata, a brilliant amalgamation of North Indian richness and Italian creaminess, was indulgent and innovative. The Grilled Paneer and Mushrooms were perfectly charred, imbued with subtle spices, and left a lasting impression.

Transitioning to the mains, we sampled Aloo Bhindi, Chana Masala, Vegetable Biryani, and Boondi Raita, accompanied by freshly baked Tandoori Rotis. While the rotis were notably soft and satisfying, the main dishes, although well-executed and flavorful, didn’t quite echo the elevated excitement of the appetizers. Nevertheless, they were hearty, authentic, and nourishing.

The meal concluded on a high note with a delectable dessert and a cup of Masala Chai that was, quite frankly, outstanding—aromatic, spiced to perfection, and deeply comforting.

In sum, our experience at Sula was thoroughly enjoyable—elevated by an inventive menu, warm ambiance, and the remarkable service ethos embodied by Sahil. For anyone seeking a memorable Indian meal in Vancouver, Sula on Davie Street comes highly recommended. It is a place where hospitality meets culinary...

Our recent visit to Sula on Davie Street left us shocked and deeply frustrated. We made a reservation well in advance, expecting a decent experience. Instead, we were given a cramped table right next to the restroom, despite the restaurant being almost empty. When we politely asked to be moved, the staff’s reaction was astonishingly dismissive. The woman in charge, instead of trying to help, kept repeating that the restroom had two doors, so we “shouldn’t mind.” This was not only dismissive but outright ridiculous.

The manager eventually approached us, but his tone was shockingly rude. He seemed bothered by our presence, making it clear that our business wasn't welcome. His words were blunt: "What’s the issue? You’re welcome to leave if you don’t like it." Such hostility, especially during a birthday celebration, was unexpected and unlike anything we’ve experienced at any fine dining establishment in Vancouver. The entire demeanor of the staff felt as though they were only interested in serving certain guests, as we saw different treatment given to other groups.

The food was equally disappointing—served cold and lacking any authentic flavor. We had higher hopes, given the restaurant’s reputation, but it fell short in every way. If you are of Indian origin visiting Vancouver, I strongly advise trying other Indian restaurants that offer both better hospitality and quality food. Sula was a complete letdown in terms of both service and...

Amazing Food and Exceptional Service at Sula Davie Street

Sula on Davie Street has completely won me over with its incredible food and outstanding service! If you're looking for authentic Indian flavors paired with a top-notch dining experience, this is the place to go.

The Chicken Lollipops were the perfect way to kick off the meal—crispy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. Every bite was a burst of deliciousness!

The Tandoori Chicken was nothing short of phenomenal. Juicy, tender, and packed with that smoky tandoor flavor, it’s easily one of the best I’ve had in Vancouver.

The Paneer dish was a creamy delight—fresh, perfectly cooked cubes of paneer in a rich, savory gravy that paired beautifully with the naan.

And oh, the Crispy Garlic Naan! Golden, crisp, and loaded with aromatic garlic, it was the perfect complement to every dish.

What made the experience even more memorable was the amazing service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful evening. They made great recommendations and ensured our glasses were never empty and our plates were always full of fresh, hot food.

The cozy ambiance, paired with the impeccable hospitality, makes Sula Davie Street a true gem. I’m already looking forward to my next visit! Highly recommended!

PS: I even got a chance to meet the owner and manager which gave me a great chance to pass on my positive reviews...

Came here one evening for some good Indian food after seeing this restaurant on social media. Overall, I rate it an 8.7; don’t get me wrong, it was really good food & I had no complaints, but nothing stood out to me. I’ve had plenty of delicious Indian cuisine in the past with nice bold flavours, but that was lacking here, so it loses points compared to other restaurants I’ve had that are similar to this one. The Butter Chicken was definitely the best dish we had! It tasted really nice & the chicken was moist enough. I would recommend this dish. The Dal Makhani was also great. We asked for it hot & they did not hold back. I would say it’s probably a little too spicy for most, so I’d recommend asking for it medium heat if you want a little spice. To accompany the curries, we got garlic naan, which was tasty, soft, deliciously chewy, and garlicky! The atmosphere was alright, nothing special. The decor was nice, the server was nice enough & the manager came around to check on us which was nice! I don’t think we’ll return, but we did enjoy ourselves. From what we saw, it looks like the street food is good, so if we did return, we would try some.

Four of us went for dinner, chose the 7:30pm slot as we wanted to try the prefix menu. We began with a cocktail for my friends and wife, I chose the kingfisher beer. The tamarind margarita was good, and the pitcher of coconut sangria was smooth and refreshing. We began our experience with the appetizers, and a bottle of wine. We decided on the Riesling and not the flight, we didn’t feel the choices paired well with the food. Of course it’s a personal choice, but both my friend and I being in the industry, me in restaurants and him in the wine industry, were particular in our choice. The food was amazing, well thought out, each dish was a perfect example of authenticity served and garnished in an exquisite manner. You can tell that some thought was put behind the whole menu and it was prepared, plated and served with pride and care. The service was very good, attentive and helpful, always with a smile and ready to serve when needed. This has been long awaited in my mind. Kudos to all behind the restaurant and the menu. I am glad to see that Indian restaurants no longer fall into the stereotypical “curry, naan and some rice”. This is a must try!
