The breakfast should be no compromise for our entire stay. In regards to the breakfast, however, it was magnificent. The salmon on a bagel was absolutely out of this world. Nothing better than we had before. Can’t complain. They’re absolutely not! Their top notch, and out of this world not even five stars have that kind of salmon on perfectly baked bagels in hotel for that price for the first breakfast . Aside from the second meal, which was our last day for the last breakfast it was very concerning and giving the price that we paid for that breakfast that was included for the price of our night stay. Who pays for A chopped salad of tomatoes and a bit of lettuce with some seasoned eggs, fried or poached perfectly for the price of what we paid for breakfast was no nothing compared to what we could’ve got. Unfortunately, that was a surprise in the last morning of breakfast for a night of stay. The day we first arrived to the property we came in instead of being welcomed to the door it was closed on us until we had to wait for payment to be confirmed. And indirectly were told to be waiting outside until we got an answer on our payment options, noting that the machine was down and there could only be excepted an E transfer. Unfortunately, our payment would have only been done through E transfer, which gave us a Red flag, because most payments are done through the machine and the booking.com said it was quite illegal stating that the e-transfers are not available for payment options. Which made our minds quite suspicious, and for the rest of the trip we were anxious about if the money would actually go through to the right email, knowing if our money actually went through and thank God for our prepaid card because we were charged even when we weren’t there before we came. So for the time it took for us to send the money over to the right account, took time out of our trip that we were expected to go out and explore for instead of that we spent time in the room, trying to figure out how the money went through or not which made us really angry because we’re not supposed to worry about the money during our trip when we already had it ready just in time for him. We also tried contacting our host a few hours before we went to go see our check-in time. There was no reply through the messaging on the booking account alongside we left a voicemail, but there was no reply. For the two nights of stays we were given one set of complete towels for two people which would be expected to be given two sets of towels, for two nights for two people given that we stated that there was only two people in our accommodation. So the uncomfortable part was the lack of awareness when we would get the towels or not, and it shouldn’t be communicated. It should be expected that we’d be given that without feeling fear of washing ourselves the next morning. With clean dry towels, and still be stocking in the room worrying about if we’ve got a message back having towels or not and having to go grab the towels ourselves when he’s going out to get the groceries. There again in the breakfast was more important than the service. When We had a bath in the Jacuzzi had a we realized the next day in the morning that there was a massive handprint. We swear that that handprint was definitely not there when we came, it was there before because it was a dry black handprint from someone touching the frame, getting water on their hand and putting it straight to the wall and then it just dried black from the colour of that frame. And was never noticed to be wiped off ..Ha ha ha ha ha right on the wall that we could see you when we laying down in the tub and it turned usoff so much thinking that not much things were cleaned properly which made us extra anxious. When we initially came into the check in of the room, the room smelt like baby wipes. And then Dennis the host that went to check us in the room instead of doing it consciously, he open the door from behind discreetly to let the air come into the room. Perhaps because...
Read moreWhere do I begin? The terrible breakfasts (dry, inedible "quesadilla" with a paper-thin ham-like substance, rubbery eggs)? The filthy windowsills and carpeting? How about the chandelier that hadn't been dusted in many, many years? Or the shower head that spewed literally half the water down the wall? ||The mat at the bottom of the porch stairs was growing moss, and was so filthy that muck covered the porch stairs from people coming in. The shampoo dispenser was empty. No clean cups or glasses were provided with daily service. Heating in the place was terrible to non-existent. The ceiling canister-light bulb was missing altogether. The small desk in the room was stained all over. ||In short, Barclay House needs a serious power wash, fresh paint, replacement of old, tired furniture, etc. This is especially true because they charge top-tier prices. ||I have noted that management responses to negative reviews have been to attack the reviewer and to call into question their credibility. I also note that a large number of reviews come from people who have only 1 review in TripAdvisor. There are also many reviews of people with fewer than 5. ||Also, it is not the customer's responsibility to report to the management problems with the facility such as existed here during our stay. It's part of management's job to ensure that everything is clean and in working order prior to the arrival of every guest, whether it's a bed and breakfast or a hotel, or any other lodging.||On the up side, Barclay house is in an excellent location, had reliable free parking during our stay, and the bed was quite...
Read moreMy fiancé (at that time my girlfriend) & me came here on March of 2019. Throughout the whole process (before & during) Dennis Kusin was a delight. We were left stranded by our airline and missed our first day, even though this happened Dennis was attentive and made us feel even more welcomed when we arrived given we were kind of irritated with how we arrived at Vancouver. After arriving he gave us everything we needed to have a great time around the city and the staff's breakfast every morning did not disappoint! Every day when we arrived home we were greeted with cookies that are extremely addicting! Our flight back home was extremely early in the morning (aka 4am) and Dennis booked everything for us which left us feeling extremely de-stressed. I could keep writing even though I won't but can't say enough good things about the staff.
I know the Barclay House staff made a huge difference for us and we plan to stay again in the future. We fell in love with Vancouver and plan to make it a frequent trip in the years to come. Sorry for the delay of writing this review, but hope to see you around next...
