Came to taste of Thai midweek an hour before closing and we were greeted by our server who gave me the feeling as if the restaurant was closing which my wife also stated she felt. We checked the hours online as we were taking our seat. We realized the other two tables were just settling up and maybe the server wanted or needed a break. Prior to us ordering another table came in which seemed to make the experience smoother. There was still an hour left as per Google. We ordered calamari which was light and flavourful. There was no grease or feeling of heaviness from a deep fried dish. There was plenty of garnish and sauce. The sauce was a vinegar base and a tad sweet and a tad spicy. The pieces were larger and not overly chewy, cooked well. one of the better calamari dishes in the city. 8.5/10 As we ate the calamari I used the hot sauce which was delivered to the table for all of the dishes. The hot sauce had chillies in it which I tried. From here on out I could feel my face become warm and I began to perspire. This is important for things to come. As we ate the calamari and I was, at this point, glowing, the person who appeared to be the owner came to the table and inquired as to how the meal was going. At this point, my wife and I, were explaining how we were enjoying the calamari and the owner made a joke as to how I must have found it spicy which was right on the money and I explained to him that we were using the hot sauce. Forward to the mains. My wife ordered the red Thai curry with chicken. The sauce was creamy, seasoned, and did not have much spice but was loaded with flavor. I believe they may have gone easy on the spice given what the owner observed. The chicken was smothered in sauce and there was plenty of tender chicken on the plate. The portion appeared to be a tad small but with the side of rice, it was the proper amount. I would have liked for the dish to have a bit more bite. 8/10. I ordered the special we saw on the board outside, prawn stir-fry with cashews and mango in a peanut sauce. This was the highlight of the night. The sauce was perfect along with everything else in the dish. Copious amounts of large prawns, grilled onions, red peppers, carrots, peas, cashews and chunks of fresh mango. Having the mango there worked in conjunction with the sauce and other ingredients in the stir-fry. My wife loved the dish as well, she kept giving me bits of hers so she could eat more of mine. 9.2/10. Overall the lack of enthusiasm at the beginning of the night was overlooked by the lively gentleman whom appeared to own the restaurant, the quality of ingredients and flavors, and proper cooking of all the proteins left my wife and I saying we would definitely come back to dine here again. The possible owner appeared confident in the restaurants dishes given his calm, relaxed, and humorous demenor. He was charismatic and warm to be around. We did not have room for dessert but were intrigued by the deep fried banana/mango dish.

Nestled in Vancouver’s West Broadway, Taste of Thai radiates authenticity and familial charm. Run by a delightful trio – daughter, mother, and father – the restaurant exudes warmth and hospitality. The daughter, a graceful hostess, effortlessly guides diners through a menu bursting with vibrant flavors. In the kitchen, the matriarch works her culinary magic, crafting dishes that transport taste buds to the streets of Bangkok. Meanwhile, the patriarch’s jovial presence infuses the restaurant with laughter and camaraderie, treating guests like cherished family members. From fiery spice of the curry’s to comforting Pad Thai, each dish is a flavorful masterpiece. Beyond the food, Taste of Thai offers a sanctuary where dining is a celebration of tradition and togetherness. For a taste of Thailand and a heartwarming experience, this family-run gem is a must-visit in Vancouver.

While this place may be popular, the service for sit in patrons leaves a lot to be desired. Went there at 6.15 on a weekday only 3 tables were occupied but the staff were too busy serving pickup orders. Drivers and pickup orders were lined up inside the restaurant which is not conducive to dining experience. The tiger beef came on top of ice cold iceberg lettuce so obviously it cooled the meat instantly so has to have cold beef. This dish did not compare to thai place on main and 28...same dish. The prawn dish was fine but again semi warm. I belive this restaurant should convert to take out place. Even after asking for my beer which was placed on the counter the server jokes and says it is getting warm and the other staff brought it fir me after another 5...
