I rarely ever leave Google reviews and have never left a negative one until today. I used to come here somewhat frequently, mostly because it stays open later than others in the area. However, like many other reviewers have noted, the prices here don’t reflect the quality of the food or drinks. Additionally, the staff have never been particularly friendly or welcoming and it’s always the same people working (possibly the owners or management). Also the rude replies from management to negative reviews really says a lot about their character.
One evening I came in to grab a coffee and paid with my American Express. After the transaction went through, I was rudely and sharply told, “Don’t do that again,” because it costs them more to process. I was honestly shocked, not just because they were trying to tell me how to pay for my drink, but because of how rude the interaction was. It is one thing to dictate how a customer pays, its another thing to do it so rudely! I am also a very non-confrontational person but when I asked why they accept Amex if they don’t want people using it, the response was, “we have big orders sometimes of over $100, so obviously I don’t want to turn away those people if they only have Amex.” This immediately came across as quite unreasonable and greedy.
I don’t think it’s fair to accept a payment method and then get upset at customers for using it... Safe to say I haven’t...
Read moreEdited after response from shop: Since you doubted that I'm a real customer, I have now added the picture I took of the pastry I had in your shop. I always give candid reviews. The good, the bad, and the ugly. As a consumer, of course I reserve the right to compare your shop with others I have tried. Healthy competitions serve to keep the overall quality high. Your shop's $5.50 Americano just didnt make the cut by my book.
Original review: Overpriced. $5.50 for an Americano was neither justified by its quality, nor the food or services that accompanied it. Note that the profit margin is high in their Dubai strawberry creations so they'd push for that naturally. I just wouldn't choose this establishment to try my first one. Pro: this shop certainly provides a quieter environment with jazzy music playing but overall, I'd get more value for my $$ by going to Sweet Barrel for far better coffee and friendlier/more down to earth service, Sweet Thea for superior pastries, larger windows with natural lighting, or Little Umbrella as a better...
Read moreThe food and drinks were not well prepared, and totalled over $50 for two drinks and two food items, which is quite steep considering what you get. Crepe was thick and rubbery, waffle was dense and hard instead of fluffy with a thin crispy outer as bubble waffle should be, and the London fog was not even prepared with steamed milk - it was just tea bag, hot water, topped up with cold milk. I really wanted to like this place and the workers were nice but there was not much to like about the food.
EDIT: in response to the business’ response - we are already aware you remade the food a couple of times. Doesn’t change the fact that it was still not good. Doesn’t change the fact that we showed up at the posted opening time and nobody was at the store. I can see that the business’ response to any negative review is to dismiss the concerns and try to justify their own shortcomings. A simple acknowledgment is fine. It is just feedback and a customer’s opinion. Trying to justify all the reasons the customer is wrong is...
