Review from guy eating his way through Vancouver’s Vietnamese restaurants. *New spot alert showcasing snacks and treats from Northern Vietnam (specifically Haiphong). Driving up Kingsway and Victoria we noticed the new awning. I love trying new places, especially when they’re Vietnamese 😋 Their menu is split into sections mainly offering Steamed Buns (kinda like Chinese Baos), Xoi (sticky rice), pho and desserts and drinks. The wife and I were not particularly hungry at this time but we wanted to try a few things. We decided on the mini baguettes with pork pate and a single order of pork spring rolls that comes with two. We enjoyed both items as they came out hot and freshly made. They were a good “appetizer” size perfect to share for two people. Still feeling peckish, we ordered the Haiphong Rice Ball and che thai for dessert. The rice ball was not really a ball but more a small bowl size amount of rice. Toppings included chopped peanuts, fried shallots, mung beans, pork, salt and sugar. Sounds like a lot of things but it combines nicely and it works. It’s also very filling so this is also another item that is good to share. Finally the dessert. This was the perfect way to round out the experience. Assorted tropical fruit mixed with jellies and poured over with coconut milk. It’s not heavy or overly sweet. Just right. Overall, we were glad we stopped in at Tuan & Thuy and we look forward to trying their many other items. Ray’s Tips: Great place to come with some friends and try a bunch of different items. Lot of menu items are shareable. Parking - there’s some free street parking, also some in the residential side streets. Payment - cash or debit

We visited when they first opened and served a menu of traditional Vietnamese street food. Then, we ordered the mini baguettes and steamed buns - both items are unique to the Vancouver food scene and very delicious. We noticed recently that they had extended their operating hours and had expanded their menu to include pho, bun, rice items and dessert! On our most recent visit, we tried a few of those new items. The beef pho was absolutely delicious. The broth was rich and beefy and the noodles were flavourful and still toothsome. The lemongrass chicken bun (dried vermicelli noodles) was a bowl of comfort. Thoroughly marinated chicken was still juicy and tender and not charred and dried. They had two dessert puddings on the menu, one with jelly and the other with fruit. Served with a flan that is probably one of the best in the city. Served in chilled bowls, a detail not unnoticed. The service is wonderful as the staff is very accommodating. We were served by the owner (Tuan) who shared his vision for the restaurant. They plan to continue to expand their menu and will add more unique dishes from his repertoire. The restaurant could use a bit more lighting from the outside as the large banner on the façade, though visible, could be lit for the evening service. If you find youself in the area and among the plethora of Vietnamese dining options available, do give Tuan & Thuy a try and you won't be disappointed.

First time dining here and had a great meal! It’s one of those places where you don’t get much service but the staff are really nice and accommodating. Get seated to your table, order, eat, and then pay. Simple. We had the Bánh Bèo (steamed rice cake) with ground pork wrapped in a banana leaf. It also came with a side bowl of some kind of tasty broth and 2 large ground pork meatballs. Simple and delicious! We also tried the rare beef and meatball pho and the broth was delicious and clean. They were quite generous with the beef and meatballs. Also tried the lemongrass chicken, pork, spring roll on vermicelli. The chicken was very tender and portion size was pretty generous as well. Definitely recommend checking out this place and we will be back! Note 1: When you are finished your meal, pay at the counter - no need to get the attention of one of the staff members for the bill. Note 2: cash or debit card only. They did offer to accept Interac e-transfers (Interac e-transfers are only available in Canada for individuals who have Interac-partnered bank accounts).
