Tl;dr False advertising wasn't honored and employees argued with me about it. Worst of all, the manager refused to honor the price correctly as Quebec law requires.
Wednesday 15th July '25: Wanted to order onion ring poutine. Screen said 7.99$. When punched in by cashier it charged at 8.49$. (Also there was a sign over their fountain drink machine that said 8.29$) I pointed out the discrepancy and the cashier who came to help the younger cashier said she couldn't do anything about it and that their manager wasn't there. I asked them to find a way to resolve the issue considering restaurants in Quebec are required to honor the advertised price. I was told repeatedly nothing could be done. I insisted that they find a way to resolve the issue including suggesting they call the manager, which she did after going back and forth for literal minutes.
She spoke with the manager for a few minutes and explained the situation, including the sign that said 8.29$. The manager said to give me the 8.29$ and she said she couldn't do anything else. I insisted they need to honor the 7.99$ price. They refused so I left on principal.
First she'd lied to me that the price couldn't be honored (she entered a custom item and price after manner told her 8.29$). Spent minutes arguing with me about it, making other customers wait rather than quickly resolving the issue. Then they refused to do the right thing. (Because manager said so.)
It's important to note that during this process, while I was firm in my tone I didn't yell or curse. I've worked retail and it's always bad management that leads to these situations not bad employees.
This review isn't really about the girl, but rather about how she and everyone on her team isn't trained properly on how to handle these situations and most importantly about the manager who should be quick and decisive in directing his employees on how to correctly apply the law. It was infuriating that the the manager was unwilling to address their own mistakes (or that of whoever is in charge of the signage) and apply the law correctly by honoring the lowest advertised price.
Had the employee been trained properly they wouldn't have lied to me. Had they been trained properly, a scene would have been avoided. Had the manager not been so cheap, the issue could have been...
Read moreSo I hate complaining about any kind of bad service experience online, but this one was so awful I wanted to warn others. I stopped by this A&W around 10:30pm to get something to eat after driving all evening. Upon coming in, we waited about 5 minutes to take our order, with no one in front of us. I understand they are short staffed. There were two teenage girls working the cash and window who seemed tired and stressed, and two delinquents working the food in the back. They were disrespectful and clearly not caring about what they're doing - I get it but you chose to work in fast food... Anyway I place my order and wait around 20-minutes. The girl working the cash asks me to verify my order so I did. Waited another 10-minutes and she asked to verify my order a second time, so I did. I get fed up ask for a refund, but they assured me my order was almost ready. Finally I get my order after 40 minutes. Even after verifying my order twice, it was all wrong. The guys in the back didn't seem to care, and tried to pass off my order knowing they made it wrong. I felt bad for the girls who are probably just trying to pay for their college, but it's not worth the headache. At least I got my refund....
Read moreYesterday evening I was first to the drive thru. It took the girl 5min before coming on the speaker to get my order, I almost left and I should have. When I got to the window, I paid, and then sat there for 20 minutes!!! While the two girls working the front were reapplying their lip gloss and filming Tik Toks. After 20min she opens the window and says “sorry it’s going to be a while longer.” I asked for a refund instead because I was done with waiting, considering I’ve been waiting for almost 30min . She had no idea what to do and asked the guy in the back to help. He smashed around on the screen and couldn’t figure it out either, and with lots of attitude told me to take down his managers number and to call tomorrow to get a free combo. No thanks, that’s weird, I just wanted my money back and asked for cash instead. The whole ordeal took another 10min just to get a refund! Absolutely ridiculous! The most frustrating is please remind your staff that we can see them… and when we are waiting with no idea what’s going on with our order, I don’t want to see them...
