I've been coming here since I was in university and its been 10 years, I thought I'd finally stop gate keeping this place and share this oyster pearl with the world.
Pita Golden Pocket is a mom and pop shop run by a father/son duo - mom retired pre-covid and son has taken over the spot - pumping out shawarmas that will make you NEVER want a shawarma from somewhere else again. The pita itself is simple, it has the classic hummus, baba ganoush, vegetable combo that we are all familiar with. Tomatoes, pickles, radish, cucumber, lettuce, onion are all are your disposal to create a vegetable medley of your choice.
What makes this shawarma spot a MUST try and a magical place is the mega mountain of chicken that sits on top of your veggies. The chicken itself is flavourful and fresh, set up daily by baba and his son in the early wee hours of the morning, and roasts all morning until its time to open the doors. The chicken is roasted the way you expect perfect shawarma chicken to be, juicy, flavourful and with bits of crispier roasted parts that add texture to your wonderful pocket of happiness. The best part is, the portion of chicken is mind blowing - one must fathom how in the world they're going to wrap it up in the pita and contain it within the wrapper. Tahini tops this mountain of glory followed by as many lines of hot sauce as your heart desires. There is also garlic and baba ghanoush in this thing. Finally, the secret sauce of this place, amba.
This is 100% a sit down and eat shawarma and one where you will need a plate, or paper towel set down, or some kind of system to catch the droplets of sauce, chicken, and vegetables that will inevitably fall as you peel the wrapper away and eat this thing. I would recommend sitting down at Pita Golden Pocket or taking it home, setting out a plate, and eating on top of that. Lots of napkins or something to wipe your hands is a must.
Pita Golden Pocket is well worth the spend. Expect to have a late dinner, and expect to require at least an hour of napping right after. The food coma that follows this thing is well worthy of what you...
Read moreI found this spot as I was waiting for my tires to get changed across the plaza. Didn't really have any interest just by looking at the front. I decided to give it a shot and was very surprised. 2 gentlemen were working. The chef and the cashier. Very nice and welcoming people and took my order right away. At first, when he told me the prices i dropped my mouth as I thought it was way overpriced. Shawarma wrap (one size only) is 15 with no sides or drink. A half Shawarma plate is $25. I was extremely hungry and gave both a shot. I waited for about 25 minutes unfortunately but I think it was due to the amount of people who ordered before me. When It was my turn and the chef asked me what I wanted on my wrap and plate, I could see why it was the price it is. This man piled a huge amounts of chicken on both the wrap and plate. I was very surprised he was able to wrap the bazooka with how much meat it has inside. Once I received my order I finally took a bite out of it and was very pleased. Extremely flavorful and pack full of meat. I was able to only make it to the wrap but it is well worth the price.
In short. Very big portion, worth the price and...
Read moreI haven’t written a review in a while. Yet days after my experience here I continued to think of the man in the ‘FANTASTIC’ red had.
My husband and I literally have said to each other since visiting this spot for the first tim …slow down … you don’t have to go fast for people to love you. MR IN THE RED HAT IS GOING TO TAKE HIS TIME IF THERES 5 PEOPLE OR 50. HE IS SO HAPPY, POSITIVE,LOVING ENDEARING all while serving shawarma, falafel and fries in a place without a social media or grass wall.
The food was fantastic. The portion was fantastic. The furniture is dated BUT WHO CARES. Please come here and expect to wait. The people in line recognized it was our first time and gave us the entire set up. I will stand here and wait to be in the presence of someone so THOUGHTFUL. The line was long he made French fries for everyone to enjoy while waiting. You ordered a meal he said please have a drink on us. THIS FEELING CAPTURES PEACE, HAPPINESS, RIGHTEOUSNESS. It has been a long time since experiencing that with a human much less a little restaurant in an industrial area in Vaughan. STAND IN LINE. WAIT YOUR...
