My husband and I recently revisited Wildfire Bakery located at 1517 Quadra Street (corner of Mason and Quadra, Victoria, BC), after a hiatus of about 5 years. We were walking in the area, when we saw the quaint old building and remembered we had been there once. At that time of the day it was very busy, as it obviously has a solid, loyal customer base, so we gave up trying to get someoneâs attention and left. The second time it was not so busy, we had a good look at everything and purchased a loaf of whole wheat bread. It was so fresh and appetizing, that as soon as we got home we broke big chunks of the crusty loaf and wolfed it down at once. Since then we have been back a few times trying different items. Their muffins are big and satisfying, the carrot cake is tasty and the chocolate cake is heavenly. They also have a good selection of wholesome-looking sandwiches and cookies. The place is small, quaint and down-to-earth. Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have a large selection of healthy breads (whole wheat, spelt, and rye, among others) baked daily in a wood-fired oven. We also appreciate the granola, and their good selection of stone ground whole grain flours from Nootka Rose milling in Metchosin. I doubt whether one could find better breads anywhere in...
Read moreOur family recently bought a highly over-rated $7 loaf of Rustic White Bread of Wildfire's , thinking that there must be something special about it at such exorbitant price .. We asked the vendor why so high a price for so small a loaf ~ to which she replied that it was probably due to the fact that it " came sliced " .... Well , there must be something wrong with your slicing machine Wildfire , as we still had to cut/tear the bottom piece off each slice , and our daughter exclaimed that we must have been paying for all the holes throughout each slice as well ! Too small for the toaster and not much to say about the taste either , considering the ridiculous price of this bread . We can do better with our home bread machine say all of us . All in all , most disappointing ~ and we give this loaf a 2 out of ten , feeling it too risky to try another of Wildfire's breads again . In future we will stick to those good $ 5.00 loaves available in ordinary ...
Read moreWildfire is truly an amazing local gem. The care they put into their products is incredible, and the quality is almost unmatched in this city. They not only have beautiful sweet pastries and amazing bread loaves - they also have fantastic lunch options. And they're lovely people!
I also really feel compelled to comment on the reviewer below. Why are people so awful? It is not unlawful to ask people to wear masks in a retail setting at this time - businesses have the right to require their customers to wear masks. Tourism has rapidly increased this month, our numbers are going up sharply, and the delta variant is rampant. Wearing masks and requiring customers to do so shows a commitment of care to employees and customers - and I heartily applaud and support Wildfire and other businesses for this policy. Thank you Wildfire - and I'm so sorry for the negativity your team has to face...
