Update: Thank you Keith (Chateau Victoria Managment team) for reaching out to further discuss our negative experience during our stay. Your time and concern is much appreciated.
The concierge staff were all very helpful and hospitable. The hotel lobby and rooms were tidy and clean. However management should consider to update the gym as a few pieces of equipment are old and outdated (treadmill, elliptical etc). For guests that are light sleepers this hotel may not be for you. Throughout the night there was an abundance of loud ticking noises and flapping noises from inside and outside of the room. The walls between the rooms are extremely thin. From the moment the guests in the rooms on either side of us woke up we could hear them talking and watching tv, this was even worse nearing bed time. We could even hear the other guests pulling on the chain to raise and lower their roller blinds, I’m sure they could hear ours as well.
For EV car owners there should technically be enough EV charging stalls as there are a total of 6 (4 - Tesla, 2 - all other EV’s) however the hotel has a quirky rule that non EV’s can park in the designated EV stalls due to limited parking (there are 4 parking lots) which makes it’s quite troublesome for EV owners. In my opinion EV stalls should only be designated for EV’s so guests with EV’s do not have to inform concierge and ask for help to request the non EV owners to move their vehicles.
As mentioned above I would like emphasize that all the concierge staff did a great job and deserve much praise (Michael, Jason and others). If the quality of the rooms could match the quality of service provided Chateau Victoria would be a great hotel. As quite a few guests have mentioned we also experienced an issue with the toilet lever. Luckily I was able to Jimmy the level after each use to stop the water from constantly running in the tank.
The reason I gave 2 stars is because I wasn’t able to have proper rest and sleep for the 3 nights we stayed at...
Read moreWe visited Victoria to take in a concert at the Capital Ballroom, and chose the Chateau Victoria due to location and price. We definitely weren't disappointed. We only planned on staying one night, but we liked the hotel and the room (Deluxe Queen with bedroom and kitchen, Room 510) so much, that we decided to stay for three nights instead. This gave us a chance to explore Victoria and the surrounding area. The only complaints we have, is that the bed, although comfortable, was outdated and extremely squeaky. Every time I moved, the bed squeaked so badly that my wife woke up, and vice versa. My biggest complaint, however, is that there is a portable air conditioner in the bedroom that is used for the entire hotel room. The compressor on the unit is so incredibly LOUD that every time it kicked in or turned off, we woke up during the night. It was impossible for us to sleep while running the air conditioner and it couldn't be moved to the living room as it was permanently attached to the wall via the air vent. Often, in the middle of the night we had to wake up and turn off the air conditioner, open the window, and turn on the fan just to fall asleep. Therefore, in the 3 days we were at the hotel, we never had a good night's sleep because of the squeaky bed and the air conditioner. Great hotel, great service, great staff, absolutely loved it, but got zero sleep due to the noise of the bed and the air conditioner compressor. 5 stars for the hotel, 1 star for the bed and A/C. 3 stars overall based upon our...
Read moreThis hotel location wins hands down. All the downtown attractions were walkable - Legislative assembly building, Empress hotel in case if you wanted high tea, harbor view, Royal BC museum, lot of restaurants (Ithaka which is next door), China town, Bastion square etc. We didnt have to take our car out for local sight seeing (took the water taxi to reach Fisherman's wharf and the taxi pick up point was also close by). The beds were good and the bathroom was clean/tidy. This hotel has a restaurant which we didnt visit but went to the restro bar where we had a drink (only 19+ adults are allowed). We didnt use the swimming pool either but got to know from my wife that isnt that big/lengthy one either. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are traveling as a family (my room has 2 queen beds which was convenient for us). There is a starbucks diagonally opposite if in case you drink a lot of starbucks coffee/drinks. Has valet parking and the parking fee is CAD 20 per night (a lot of hotels around this area charged for parking and hence I was ok with that). Last but not the least - Super...
