The hotel was fine, in that it was quaint, the staff were great, the room was OK. Oddly, my roommate told me she was worried about me, as I was gasping for air, like sleep apnea, but gasping. She was also annoyed as it wrecked her sleep. I had noticed the smell of whatever is in A535 rub when we came in the room, and opened the window. I'm somewhat sensitive to that scent, and wonder if it affected my sleep, as I closed the window later due to gull noise. At home again I monitored my sleep for a few nights, and barely snored. So I'm not sure what it was. Other reviews mention a few things, so I would simply suggest, if you have allergies....||The location was great if you want to be downtown, except for getting there and to parking. With sporadic street closures, Google maps has a hard time assisting, and the parking is 2 blocks from the hotel. The temp parking for baggage drop-off was a painful odyssey. ||The suite I was promised when I booked was misleading, but I went through a 3rd party- just call the hotel front desk to book. 3rd party booking service was useless for making changes later. |There is a mini fridge in the room we booked, a small stove and sink, pots etc. at reception. But I would never cook there. I had originally planned a week and thought we had a kitchenette. And was promised a separate sitting room. There was a coffee maker, coffee and creamer, but no tea. Personally as a former frequent work traveler, I'd rather have a microwave than a stove. ||You have to request maid service, or you don't get it. ( at least we didn't, and others report same). ||On a good note- reasonably quiet on the 3rd and 4th floor courtyard rooms. The room appeared clean. ||The outlets are a bit bizarre with only one near one bed, and quite a few near the other. Tricky to charge devices. ||The bathroom door is heavy, opaqueish glass, and the bathroom light glares at the one bed everytime it's on, so easy to wake up your roomie. ||The shower knob is weird, and placed so that you HAVE to get a cold blast to have a shower. A smarter design would be to have it at the other end. ||So, OK, but not great. ||We spent the rest of our week in a whole house air b and b in Oak Bay, which had it's drawbacks too, but it was better all around for us. So choose the location wisely, 1 night downtown would have been enough. I don't think I'd stay...
Read moreWhen my husband and I arrived 30 seconds after the gentleman in front of us we waited patiently. The woman behind the counter didn't even give us a "I'll be right with you" and avoided even acknowledging our presence until the other customer left, despite being 2 feet from her. When it came to looking up our reservation I was told my confirmation number had too many numbers in it and she acted like it was a huge inconvenience that she couldn't immediately find our reservation. Now if I hadn't just heard the entire "check in" speech I wouldn't known about the parking or the internet, she only gave us the info to us after I asked to have it. Not to mention our parking wasn't magically included like the guest prior to us and we would have had to pay $11 a night. As for the room its self there wasn't really anything "deluxe" about it. You'll be able to hear anything going on around your room within a 20 foot radius in any direction. We got to listen to a drunk couples late night complaints of their "deluxe" room, still have no idea which room they were in but it sounded like they were in our room. Part of the issue being the large air conditioning unit in the window, which is pretty much like a huge hole for sound to come in. So if the sounds don't keep you up the thin shades will. If you're this far north you'd think they'd invest in some decent shades since the sun doesn't set till 10pm. Also with the window unit, you'll have to choose between being cool and having light stream in since the shades cover the unit when closed. Last note about the room was the awkwardly placed, sinks, and toilet. You had to shimmy around the door to close the bathroom door. The bathroom sink was in the room, which normally isn't too odd but if it had been a foot closer to the bed I could have brushed my teeth in bed. Then there was another sink on the opposite side of the room that didn't seem to really serve any purpose. Beds were uncomfortable and the TV was set in such a place you could only watch it while standing the the bathroom. Overall if you're looking for a cheap place to stay int he heart of Victoria and you sleep like a rock then it'll do. But if you're looking for a romantic stay with your husband...
Read moreWe stayed at the Bedford Regency and initially had high hopes. The location is great, the hotel has charm, and our check-in experience was smooth. Unfortunately, we found a live mouse and droppings in our room, which completely changed the tone of our stay.
As immunocompromised guests, this was not just unpleasant. It was a serious health and safety concern. Some of our belongings had been on the floor just inches from the droppings, which understandably made us very uneasy. We discovered the mouse in the late afternoon, and by the time we finished moving rooms, we had missed dinner reservations we had scheduled for 40 minutes after finding it.
We expressed our concerns and asked for a partial refund for one night, which seems fair given the circumstances. We later learned that other guests who had similar experiences were offered that. Instead, we were offered a $50 food voucher for the restaurant downstairs. But honestly, why would we want to eat in the same building where we found a mouse in our room? That offer completely missed the mark and made us feel like our concerns weren’t taken seriously. There is rarely just one mouse, especially on the third floor, and the visible holes behind the heaters suggest a larger issue.
Service started out polite but became noticeably less accommodating once we voiced our concerns. It is disappointing because we genuinely liked the hotel at first and would have loved to return, but this experience left us feeling dismissed and unsafe.
EDIT: The hotel has now responded again stating we are being “misleading” about how our stay actually was. We find this deeply offensive and incredibly dismissive of the stress and real health concerns we experienced. Nothing in our review is fabricated or dramatized. We stand firmly behind our experience and our evidence.
Being accused of lying and having the room cleaned before pest control could even assess it does not erase the fact that there were mouse droppings and a live mouse...
