I've been meaning to try them for a long time, finally opportunity outweighed the higher prices, they where open after a hockey game... I tried both the burrito and the gringa, I intend to try the tacos latter and will update. Burrito was well wrapped and grilled two things I appreciate, though to be honest it was small, and heavy on the beans, it was a beef burrito, strips rather than ground, losely called "steak", it was heavy on meat and beans and rather low on all else, it had cabbage but there wasn't very much, and as cabbage is inexpensive they really could have benefited from more cabbage to better ratio the filling and make the burrito larger at low cost. The taste was good, but certainly would have benefited from more variety of flavors within. I asked for it as spicy as they could, the result was okay, but certainly not spicy by international standards... to be honest, not worth the extra cost. The gringa was also small, but outstanding for flavour, I'm still torn on weather it merits the extra cost, and I don't shy from paying for quality. The wait for my order was fairly long for 9:15pm on a Saturday, owed mostly to the popularity of the chain... inside they have heavy steel bassed wooden tables of abysmal quality, I believe they where going for a rustic look but missed that mark for cobbled together, adjacent tables have no leveling on their feet and it really shows the inconsistencies in construction as the surfaces aren't even close to level, the money of the chain shows in the quarter inch steel construction but the workmanship is betrayed by the legitimately rough and uneven tops, the tables are painted green and whatever combination of table paint and cleaner leaves the tables persistently and unpleasantly tacky to the touch... overall, not worth the extra cost and the rantings of quality are likely brought on exclusively...
Read moreI've been a customer of Taco Fino since day 1, when they were at Fort Street. I used to enjoy the food there. I've since visited the new location several times, but that was some years ago.
Upon visiting Victoria again I decided to take a nostalgic visit to Taco Fino. The blaisé service I was met with was a foreshadowing of the experience I was about to have. After shelling out an absurd 18$ for a burrito, I was told to pick a seat.
I sat down and eventually my burrito came. It came with no water, no hot sauce, or anything. I asked the server for some water and instead of giving me a bottle like every other table seemed to have, she plopped a tiny cup of water on the table for me. I was not bothered to ask her for water again, so I let my dry throat shrivel up and disintegrate.
To their credit, the burrito was huge. Despite how massive it was, there was hardly any meat inside. Any existing chicken was cardboard dry. I remember the Fort street days, when the roasted chicken was incredibly juicy and succulent. This time, I paid 18$ for an excess of bland beans, mushy rice and tons and tons and tons of cabbage. Cabbage Fino must love their cabbage, because the sheer amount of cabbage inside this "chicken" burrito was astounding. To get any condiment on your cabbage burrito, you have to go to their take out window/front counter. There, you either have to be a douche and interrupt an exchange or wait for them to finish helping a poor new victim.
It's sad, a local spot for a good burrito...
Read moreVery disappointed in my experience here today. The lady at the front till was very kind in explaining their Gluten free menu to me and made me feel comfortable ordering here since I am Celiac. My food was brought out and after I took one bite the same lady ran over and told me to stop eating right away as she failed to note that my order was Gluten Free and for a Celiac! She mentioned she’s glad she caught it quick enough - clearly doesn’t understand Celiac Disease and the importance relating that information to anyone dealing with this order and the fact that it’s to late and I’ve already ingested WAY to much gluten from that 1 bite. Incredibly glad I don’t have a severe food allergy that causes an anaphylactic reaction as her carelessness could have seriously impacted someone’s life. I am in for a very horrific next 24 hours and yes she was apologetic and made me the gluten free order very quick but this is still not acceptable. I will never return here as I do not feel this establishment takes Celiac Disease or even food allergies, for that matter, serious AT ALL. And for those of you thinking it was probably super busy it was completely dead when I came in and ordered (because I’m aware my orders need that extra time and I plan accordingly). Also pretty bad for no management to come out and chat with me after the fact… and no I did not get my 30 dollars back for my 3 tacos… but the lost money is the least of my worries. Celiac...
