Our visit here was back and forth good and bad. For starters, I called a couple days in advance to make a reservation. This was to be our first time out to a restaurant since the pandemic started, so we were excited. When we arrived, they greeted us by name, which was a nice touch. But then we discovered our reservation was for the patio, not indoor. They have decided to keep their indoor closed. If you like patio dinning, I guess that would be fine, but we did not want to eat outside with flies buzzing around all over. We asked to be moved inside, but they said no. This was a real let down. We ordered right away, and asked for garlic bread to start. It took 20 minutes to arrive, so judge that how you see fit. The garlic bread was absolutely excellent though! I'd give it a perfect score for sure. Our entrees arrived 25 minutes after that. First was the caesar salad. The presentation of the salad is baffling. The romaine heart is trimmed and cleaned but otherwise totally intact and in one piece sitting in the middle of the plate. The caesar dressing is drizzled on top in a zig zag pattern, and then in two little pools on the plate on either side of the romaine. Some sausage bits are sprinkled on top. I honestly wasnt sure what to do with this, and I actually had to ask the server. He brought me a knife so I could chop it all up myself. Once we got eating it though, it was easily the best caesar salad I have ever had. They make their own dressing, and my big regret is not buying a bottle. This salad was so good that I kept eating it even after my steak had arrived! My wife ordered the tiger shrimp piri, which she said was good but she was unprepared for how spicy it would be. They do give you a stack of bread with the shrimp piri, but no butter for it, and they do not have any available if you ask. My steak arrived on their signature granite slab, and I have to admit that is a slick and effective presentation. It is nice how it keeps your steak warm for you - especially handy when you're stuck out on a patio. I ordered the new york strip, and it was ok - not bad, but not awesome. Actually, it was a little flavourless and I found myself dipping it in the bbq sauce they provide, which tasted like store bought bulls eye sauce. I usually never use bbq sauce in a restaurant, but it just didnt have much flavour. The steak comes with potatoes, which were nicely seasoned but very dry. Some butter would have helped them out a lot. To drink, I ordered a long island. It was fine, but I was surprised when the bill came: I had misread the menu and thought mixed drinks were $9, but the long island is actually $16! I would not have ordered it had I realised that. For dessert we had the famous custard tarts, and those alone would be worth the price of admission. We shared a plate of 4, and my only complaint is that there weren't more! Most reviewers comment how expensive this place is. But "expensive" is subjective. Here's what we actually paid: $6 for table water, $14 for garlic bread, $17 for the caesar salad, $25 for the shrimp, $46 for the steak, $16 for the long island, $5 for a glass of juice, $12 for the tarts, and $6 for a coffee. Subtotal was $147, $166 after tax. That's probably about 25% higher than I would have expected, but the real problem is that sitting outside on plastic furniture, it just didnt feel like good value. Bottom line, it was a good meal over all, and I think most people could have an enjoyable evening there so long as they're prepared for the not-so-good parts.
To the owner who has responded. Honestly, i'm not sure about your strategy here. We had a mixed experience at your restaurant. I'm sorry, but that's just the truth. Arguing with me online isnt going to make me think differently about that. You cant argue me into thinking $16 is a normal charge for a single drink. I've never run a restaurant, but if I did and someone wasnt happy, I dont think I'd argue with them, I think i'd just invite them to come back and let...
Read moreWhat a waste of money!!!!! Seriously if I where you do eat at mcdonalds seriously. Here is a very quick overview of my evening . We arrived ( 2 adults and 3 kids . One of them 2 years old. We arrive at 6:15pm , seated on patio only 3 other tables with people. Waitress seems to know much of anything. We need to ask for everything three times besides what I go inside to get so it's faster. Ask for a bottle of white wine that's not super sweet recommends one that is ONLY sweet and I send back then she recommends another that is fine this time. Then we order or appetizers ( I am highly allergic to gluten and I mention this ) . Takes 1 hour to get appetizers and guess what mine has bread all in my plate ! It was the scallops with rice in middle and three pieces of bread. So back goes scallops and 15 minutes later out comes my appetizer. So know where 1:30 minutes in and still no main course and my family is on there third basket of bread and starving. The 2 year old is crying as she needs food so we give her a milk to calm her down. So we order a plate of seafood pasta , 2 top sirloins and myself a filet mignon at 48 dollars. I am mentioning the price for later. I ask her no patatoes and please just add more asperagus as it's the vegetable for the evening she said. I said please add more and if there is a différence I will pay for it. I asked for medium , very little pink inside. So guess what folks we had to wait another 30 to 45 minutes for our mains!!! Out comes our mains. Pasta had 2 shrimp and it's supposed to be seafood pasta lol. The 2 top sirloins where ok . My filet was rare and tough as nails and i had 6 small asperagus. I told the waitress what can we do my steak is not cooked and is tough. I am a steak eater like 4 times a week. I have tried low end to high end and this is just garbage end! She comes out and says we will put it on another plate and we will re do it. I said forget it where starving and I will slice it into super small pieces and I will cook it on the hot rock plate as I don't want to make my family nor I wait another 30 minutes as where all loosing patience by now! So finish out dinner and it took me 3 more diet cokes with my wine to swallow it down in record time so we could just leave. I ask for bill and guess what we wait another 10 minutes and I tell family to get up and go in car and I will go to front and pay this is crazy. Get to front desk and she says oh I was about to bring it out , yeah right !!!! So she then proceeds to say sorry about your meal I am only aloud to take 8 dollars off as the owner is not here! Wait what are you serious , 8 dollars lol you might as well not even tell me that and leave it there as that is an insult ! 280 dollars for all this and your saying I gave you a 8 dollar discount . In my head I was like um call your owner or ask your manager or just dont do anything ! Just dont insult me with money as you insulted me with service, time and all my food and this is the cherry on the sundae . Anyways people I really suggest you stay far far away from this place and if you really want to eat out go anywhere else then here ! 280 dollars for what we received is a complete complete rip off! To the owner if you decide to take a Monday evening off , leave someone in charge or a cell number to reach you when things like this happen as this is...
Read moreToday was my birthday. Being new to Wasaga Beach I asked locals where to get a nice dinner. I was told to try Barcelos as the couple had been a few years back and had enjoyed their meal. So we tried tonight. After receiving the menu and noting the high prices we expected the food to be worthy of the cost. My husband ordered the lamb curry and although the meat was very tough he did not complain, I ordered the lobster ravioli and was unable to eat it. The "cocktail" shrimp was so tough that my husband and I both thought they must have come from a can, the ravioli was tough and sides were curled like it had been sitting for a while and warmed up, no taste of lobster anywhere. I explained to the waitstaff that I could not eat it and gave her the reasons. She was very apologetic and took the meal away. Then the bill came and to my surprise the $45 ravioli meal was still on it, I smiled and said you forgot to take the meal off the bill to which I got "The owner will not authorize me to remove the cost of the meal off the bill and although you did not eat it, you must still pay for it." After declaring I would not pay for a meal I did not like or eat, finally the owner showed up. At first smiling and welcoming but then...when I refused to pay, or pay for half (why would I?), he dragged his poor chef out of the kitchen to ask if the supplier had changed or if the cook had done my meal wrong?! Obviously the poor chef stated he had cooked it properly and supplier had not changed and I looked on as the owner got louder and louder. I simply stated isn't the customer supposed to be always right? If I say it tasted bad, then it tasted bad. I was not lying, it was mine and my husbands opinion and we are the customer! As the owner continued to rant and raise his voice over the bar at me I continued to state I was not paying for the meal. He said they could send one home with me. Why would I like it anymore at home than I did in the restaurant I said? He shouted 99 percent of the people who order it love it, YOU are the 1 percent. So what if I am the 1 percent, I did not like the meal my husband explained to him. 10 minutes later after raising his voice and treating first time customers (and last) so appallingly, he just walked away without a word. The most unprofessional man I have met in the food industry, let alone an owner! I have been a cancer/palliative nurse working with the public for 16 years and I have never had someone speak to me like this man did. What happened to respect. I clearly stated I was wearing a heart monitor and was to avoid stress but he kept yelling! We put the cash down on the counter minus my meal and walked out! I love to support local businesses but will not return to this place. ...
