New to Wasaga and was excited to try a new place for a late lunch. Had been here years ago when it was a cosy family diner. The new bar vibe was a bit tacky with silver snowflakes hanging from the ceiling in July. We ordered sandwiches with fries and the waitress asked if we wanted white or malt vinegar and we said both. She brought ketchup in an old bottle with the Heinz label partially torn off. Yes we've seen this in other places but this was a squeezable plastic bottle, not glass, which is easier to clean. The vinegars were clear glass bottles with some sort of wooden toothpick stuck in the top loosely blocking the holes. We were about to ask the waitress about it when we notice both vinegars were murky/cloudy. Upon a closer look we noticed at least 2 dead fruit flies floating in the "white" vinegar. The toothpicks were obviously placed there to prevent a known problem but also obviously did not work. We drew the issue to the waitress's attention but also realized we had completely lost our appetites. We apologized politely and explained that we could not stay. The waitress attempted to say she just filled some bottles earlier. But the question was clearly why have they not prevented this known problem and how does a contaminated bottle like this make it to the table. As we were leaving the people behind us were looking at us and we remarked that they may want to check their vinegar. The response was that they did not want to hear anything we had to say. Neither the waitress nor the cook or owner or whomever was in the back made any effort to speak further with us. All in all the grossest experience we've had in a restaurant. Went to another place today with the same vinegar bottles but these were clean and clear with open holes at the top. We asked if they ever had problems with fruit flies and they simply said no. As...

They have daily dinner specials and have a rather large choice of entrees from soups, sandwiches and grilled cheese to hamburgers, fries, chicken souvlaki and everything in between. You can have a full 3 course dinner or only appetizers, your choice to mix and match. Don't forget the wine or your choice of drink!
The couple that owns The Hive are very active in the community. He is a full time Military man who helped to make his wife's dream come true with the restaurant! Such good people. They provide activity days and special community functions to support local charities and donate all proceeds back to the community (ie... the food bank etc).
Open minded and respectful to everyone in the community, a true safe space for all. They offer Karaoke nights, live music nights, and I can't wait to try my first Rainbow specialty drink at June 30th's next Pride show.
Truly a find in Wasaga! My friends and I enjoyed it greatly. Go and enjoy the service and great food! I'll be...
Read moreBeen to "The Hive" on several occasions ... always great service and great quality of food at a reasonable price regardless whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their specials are often creative and a little different to keep it from being "boring". The visit that stands out the most to me was a Birthday celebration we held at "The Hive" .... we had 40 guests, the Staff were amazing, the orders were correct and served in a timely fashion ... every single person left happy and full. The Hive even decorated the restaurant for the occasion.
Also love the fact that they offer up evenings of live entertainment, evenings of trivia, etc.
You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't...
