Halibut House Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Waterloo

Our 1st visit to this place, on June 10, 2025, started off well but fell through the floor. The place was empty with no customers inside. Spent quite a bit of time with the server ordering, repeating the order and confirming. When we got home, we discovered that they STILL got it wrong. Though cole slaw was mentioned several times, no cole slaw was found in our order. BUYER BEWARE! Read the menu carefully, some dishes have sides, some don't, some have SPECIFIC sides. Being on a health kick, we though we would get the grilled halibut rather than deep fried. We all know what shape fish are, right? Our halibut was almost a perfect rectangle! Same thickness as a cell phone and maybe a bit longer in length. A square fish. Tell me this isn't over processed! I did not notice if their deep fried halibut came out of the oil in a rectangle, though I doubt it. So why is the health option over processed. And it did not flake like fish is supposed to. Very...

My order (on Good Friday) was accepted by the restaurant at 9AM and then cancelled 30 minutes before it was set to arrive at 6:30. I just happened to call to ask if 2 cans of pop could be added and the girl who answered made up 3 different excuses for why she wouldn't even check to see if they had my order. Apparently they didn't even have access to Uber to check in the first place yet they were conveniently able to cancel my order after my phone call. I'm now out $50 and have to fight with Uber to get it back. A driver had already been assigned and I had already paid. I also have to find Fish and Chips last minute because of their error. I am confident their other location would have handled this better but I will never give this circus...

Went in for fish and chips for 2. Sold a 5 piece due to good customer service. So great on that end. Although once we got home we realized the halibut was sooo dry! It was recommended as the less fishy and flaky fish and was hard like steak. I think the cuts of fish could improve or cooking process although I’m not a cook.

VERY Expensive for fish and chips. We got the 5 piece and Fries for 120$ roughly.

We also had Cheesecake Factory cheesecake for 8.50 a slice but it seems the slices could have been sliced into half’s. Very small portions as we get these from other restaurants.
