We arrived here at 7:57 for a 8 pm reservation that was made weeks ago. Unfortunately the 7 of us had to stand around blocking the aisle at the bar for almost 20 minutes.... If I wanted to be seated at 8:14 I would have made a reservation for 8:14.... We had to witness the entourage of teen aged hosts, giggling, laughing and twirling eachothers hair instead of seating us. The least they could have done was move us to an open table top or seating is at the bar or offered to start a drink tab or even water. But no, the 3 of them just stood there laughing telling jokes to eachother.
Wr finally go seated. I was a little squished but not too bad. Our waiter was very friendly and inviting. He gave us some suggestions on the menu as he poured some water out. We did have an allergy at the table which he noted, and he confirmed that we were celebrating a 60th birthday.
I ordered a bottle of Riesling for the table for toasts, along with a wheat beer. We ordered our food. I got the mushroom stuffed escargot and the keg classic filet mignon with mushroom rice and a caeser salad. Our waiter was VERY consistent with bring bread to the table. We did put a little pressure on him for more bread and the three types of butter and he definitely satisfied us.
Halfway through the dinner, I asked for a second beer. It took them quite a while to get it out to me as they were switching kegs. He brought out the beer and it tasted wrong...like instantly. I figured they pierced the wrong keg, it was definitely an IPA. I brought it up to him, he immediately went over to the bar, figured it out and got me the right beer.
As I was eating I did notice that the Broccoli was really dry. It's like the heaters burnt the floweretts of the Broccoli but the liquid butter did help fix it a little bit. I was ok with this though.
The rice was cooked perfectly and the bits of mushrooms in the rice was next level. Absolutely loved it. The steak was cooked beautifully exactly how I like it. Rare.... like 110-120 f. They nailed it, although I do expect that with a price tag of $70.
At the end he even brought my mum a billy Miner pie. Well deserved tip.
The food was good, the service was unacceptable at the beginning but our waiter ...Jordan? I think brought the service score up. Overall a good first experience. 8.7...
Read moreMy husband and I went for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Jadyn was our server. She was lovely, friendly and professional. (She reminded me a lot of a younger version of the actress, Anne Hathaway.) My husband ordered the Keg Classic 10 oz prime rib dinner and I ordered the lobster tail dinner.
Our meals came out in a timely manner and were hot and delicious. My husband did say that he had better prime rib even though it was cooked perfectly. ( Like another reviewer had mentioned before, it needed more marbling for more flavour.) The only real complaint my husband had with his meal was that the twice baked potato skin was partially burnt. The inside was fine but the skin was not. My husband really like to eat the skin and he could not enjoy this one so he left it on his plate. We finished our meals and my husband causally mentioned it to Jadyn so that she could let the kitchen know not to serve burnt potato skin.
Shortly afterwards, the manager came to talk to my husband about the potato. The manager and Jadyn took full responsibility for the mistake and went above and beyond to compensate for it. It was just a potato skin and we were not expecting any kind of compensation but we were very impressed with how the situation was handled. It was truly remarkable that the manager and Jadyn genuinely cared about their customers' satisfaction and wanted to make things right. My husband and I find that level of service very rare in this day and age where most service workers are indifferent and just want to "pass the buck." We applaud them both and with a BIG THANK YOU!
We finished our meals with a fabulous Billy Miner Pie, complimentary for my birthday. It is big enough to share! My husband and I left full and happy. We highly recommend the Keg in Waterloo! :)
(Jadyn: if you read this, I am not sure what happened? I left you a bigger tip on the machine. I did the cash amount and not the percentage. When you took the gift card off afterwards, it converted the tip I left you into a percentage. Didn't realized that until after we came home and I looked at the receipt. Sorry...
Read moreWhat an amazing dinner we had The Keg Steakhouse + Bar It was a late Christmas party as well as a "farewell for now" party. In a short time, this awesome family run company I work for has gone from 3 to 12 staff and I truly love it here. Anyways...the food! I didn't hear any complaints from my fellow dinner guests. Speaking for myself, my meal was flawless. I ordered a Guava Basil mule to get things started. Very crisp and enjoyable. For my appetizer I ordered the wings. Everything about this plate was spot on. The wings were hot, juicy and crispy. The perfect amount of sauce just spicy enough. Topped with blue cheese that was melting into the sauce added some pungent creaminess. Finally the pickled celery was the element that set this dish apart.(why have I never heard of pickled celery before?) Sweet, sour and crunchy brought this appetizer together. Now I'm craving pickled celery. I also managed to steal a couple onion rings from my wife. 😉 My main was the baseball sirloin, lobster tail, twice baked potato, beets and broccoli, frizzled onions and whiskey peppercorn sauce. The steak was wall to wall pink, cooked perfect to medium rare, the potato was creamy on the inside with a beautiful golden crispy crust, the lobster was cooked properly as well. The broccoli had great texture with a little char. The beets were a great addition to the plate that offered a sweet, sour component. For dessert I went for the cheesecake. Kept it simple and chose to have the caramel drizzle. Paired it with the Billy Miner coffee. Absolutely delicious. Our servers were polite, attentive and efficient. The Keg has always been a solid and reliable place to get an...
