Mozy's Shawarma — Restaurant in Waterloo

Shortly upon entering this place I knew I had made a mistake, there was like four people behind the counter and only the one woman actually knew what was going on. She gets the second star for this place alone. So let me start with placing my order, I got a Shawarma plate with rice, fries and vegetables. So I placed my order and the process went well as it was handled by the woman I spoke so highly of previously. Next is where the mess started, I’m not sure what I was expecting for vegetables but I wasn’t expecting what I got, the purple pickled stick things that are on the plate where good and that was one of the saving graces for the vegetables. But the tomato’s where the absolute worst. Actually I’m going to add in a photo of the tomato’s in the review just so you can see these to get an idea. So the plate came with 3 tomato slices, I like tomato’s so I was excited to bite into the first one, but the tomato did not have a crunch; no it was not crisp. You see I like my tomato’s fresh with a nice firm texture, those are the tomato’s I desire, not the tomato’s I received. Next the onions where fresh but nothing’s was really done with it and there was an excessive amount compared to the rest of the vegetables. The pickles where dry on the outside something I didn’t mind but makes me question their freshness based on the tomato’s, but whatever they are pickles so they are pretty much just preservatives. The lettuce is just lettuce nothing to rave about either way it’s pretty much the definition of the 😑 emoji. The rice wasn’t bad but this is where the staff had little experience with the preparation and actually it wasn’t until the woman I spoke about earlier moved down the line to help that my order actually moved on. So basically they played the vegetables then the rice, waited five minutes and then added the meat, my problem with this is Mozy’s is not a warm place. I’m not sure if that’s do to it being winter and the door opening keeps cooling the place or if it is because it isn’t heated handled correctly. So needles to say my rice wasn’t as hot as it could have been. Part of this issue was one of the employees would just kinda stand in front of things and really wasn’t contributing at all to the production of the food. He was completely out of it and the woman mentioned earlier even asked him if he was alright twice while my food was being made. The bread that I got was not good by any means, they literally just take some bread and rub it in the grease from the bottom of the tray then push it against the burner. So my meal was finally ready I started it and experienced the disappointment that is Mozy’s Tomato’s.

Ps: had to get a Coke Zero to get the taste of the tomato’s out of my mouth it said share a Coke with Tanisha but I did not, drank that whole thing to wash down...

June 2022 Updated Review: I’m so happy our old mozys back! For the past three experiences we had, the food quality and taste have both been A+! I’ve been a customer since 2010, and this is honestly the GOAT of the shawarma places in town!

Today specifically, the meat and the veggies were both super fresh, the meat was juicy even and flavourful! For $15 at the current economy, you really can’t ask more than that!

The two guys in the restaurant were also such a good team, they don’t even need to talk to each other but work seamlessly with each other! I specifically asked for no onions, while they were preparing my plate, I noticed there was a piece or two of raw onions in my plate (which is totally fine), but the guy specifically picked them out of the box! What a legend! Super impressed! ——— I normally don't write reviews... but really can't be silent this time. I have to say, Mozys was our favorite, I started going there since I was in uni - so been a customer for at least 8 years.

But recently, Mozys really dropped their ball!

They raised their price while they gave us less meat with worse quality - I straight up saw the guy shook out the meat from the cup while he was putting it in our boxes LOL

Terrible customer service: we asked for extra garlic sauce, but guess what, their understanding of "extra" means LESS - they gave us so little of garlic sauce that we cannot even mix it evenly on the shawarma. Are you trying to save up the garlic sauce so you can make soup out of it?

Terrible food quality

The shawarma was cold (after they've refried the old meat) and the salad was warm! There were huge chunks of onions not even cut mixed in the...

I have been a loyal Mozy's customer for years and I had the worst experience of my life today. I ordered a shawarma plate for pickup over the phone. Once I picked it up and brought it home, I opened the plate and immediately saw a small fly lingering around the pita bread in the plate. I immediately lost my appetite and called Mozy's right away. When I called, I was given no apology or offer for a refund. Instead they had the audacity to ask me "Are you sure there's a fly in there?" I told them I was sure, and they said they would replace it for me, but note how they wanted me to bring in the original plate. So again, I drove all the way back there, furious with anger. When I got there, there was a huge lineup and the short little boy who works there just took the plate out of my hands and handed me another plate. While I was trying to talk to him about the issue, he did not even give me a chance to talk. He just walked away with so much attitude. NO APOLOGY WHATSOEVER! This is not the Mozy's I always knew about, and their quality and care of their customers has significantly been lowered.
