Yummy food! They're very generous with toppings and the sides are a good size too. The sides are as much of a draw as the pierogi! Options include several vegetarian and vegan options (tell them to skip applicable toppings like Bacon and/or sour cream, not a problem).
**Update June 2023: menu/recipes have changed, there is now no vegan perogi- all flavors for hot serving include dairy and/or meat. You can buy frozen perogi to cook at home that are still vegan. RIP sourkraut perogi!😞
Food is served to go, but there are tables and counters to eat in too.
You go in, pick the number of perogi you'd like, and what flavors (you can mix and match any combo of types you'd like). Then you pick sides, if you want them. Finally you'll pick your toppings for perogi- sour cream, fried bacon, caramelized onions and green onions. Everything is up on the wall as you enter but they are happy to walk you through it too.
Love that they cook the bacon, not just toss on cold crumbles like most restaurants do.
Pierogi are made from scratch in house, as are the sides! Sides include dill pickles, carrot salad, coleslaw, the best fresh sourkraut ever, and beets. There's also desert (cheesecake, mmmmm) and occasional special offers. Frozen/canned offerings are available by the checkout of you'd like to try and do perogi or soup at home. They often some Polish (?) drinks in the cooler by the checkout (love the cherry!)
People working are always nice and work as fast as they can, but cooking is started only after you order, so it can get backed up in a rush.
Friends and family I've brought have always raved about these places (Kitchener and Waterloo). But be warned, food comas might happen after all the yummies. I usually order extra pierogi and eat less than half of the pierogi and all the sides for lunch and finish the rest for dinner, if I go on a workday.
If you've never had (home made) pierogi, try them,...
Read moreTo the Indian lady who served me today around 3:30 - 4:00 pm, you are absolutely a gem. That’s not to say I haven’t spoken to the other workers before, but she truly made my day. From the moment I entered the store, her energy and warm smile brought me so much joy. Even better, her respect and willingness to take the time for a simple conversation with me was truly amazing. She has the perfect attitude to make customers feel right at home in Pierogi House. On top of that, her attention to detail in making the food was exceptional. She took such great care to ensure everything was not just up to standard but outstanding in both taste and presentation. I firmly believe this lady deserves a raise, ha ha ha (if only it worked that way). Overall, it was a great experience as always, but even better thanks to meeting a new employee who made my day—and probably the days of the customers before and after me—so much better. WE NEED MORE PEOPLE...
Read moreI get what they are going for, Eastern European cuisine. It didn't hit home with me. None of the sides were appealing to me. For their own business' sake they should add some more westernized sides or a fresh salad option.
The pierogies were alright but I feel that they were rather bland. For how much you have to pay they should be way better. I find you can get better pierogies from the market, or honestly, the frozen section of your grocery store. I made pierogies at home and they were better than this store's. I also felt too much oil was used to fry the pierogies. It wasn't that they were greasy. Rather they had a burnt oil taste.
To buy the standard sized meal it cost me and my girlfriend about $40. For what we got it wasn't even close. Then on top of that they want a tip? Come on. Owner should pay their staff a fair wage for what they charge.
I likely won't return. The main factor is price. Second was the quality...
