My husband and I had dinner this week on Valentine's Day at Sole Restaurant. A reservation was made for 16:45, we arrived on time, were sited at a tiny table and then the host told us that someone else was coming to have dinner at that table at 18:15. I actually thought that I heard incorrectly, but the she confirmed that we only had a 1.5hr to have our dinner and clear out. Not too romantic a start ! The restaurant booked two shift dinners per table (may be three?) for that night. It is a popular day for couples to go out for dinner. People go to Sole for special occasions, as it is quite expensive and considered to be high end dining establishment. How special should the patrons feel, when they are rushed and limited in their visit. The menu for the evening was another surprise - it was a selection of dishes, selected by the management. The choice of appetizer and entres was poor, in other words not the fine dining that we expected. We had no other option, but to order from that menu. The food was mediocre, and it is understandable - mass production never results in good quality and taste.
The service was nice, and that is why two stars.
All in all, it was a fast food experience for a very high price. I do understand that restaurant business suffered a lot during covid pandemic, and they need to make up for it. Businesses suffered, but so did we, the Patrons. When we come to a fine dining, it means we want to celebrate an occasion, or event. It is quite disappointing to spoil such a good intention. And also waist of our money.
The impression from that dinner was so negative, that I will not come back and will always tell my friends about the fast food dining at the Sole Restaurant.
Sincerely,
Dila

Read moreAlways well prepared food presented with class UPDATE 2024: A year or more ago Sole was sold to the Charcoal group of restaurants, as I understand. The restaurant was recently renewed inside, which it needed. My wife and I dined there for the first time since the new ownership/renovations. It used to be one of a few restaurants in town that we enjoyed for a nice meal with excellent food and service and atmosphere. Unfortunately we will not likely dine there again. I would guess they have added 30% more seats to the restaurant in the same space. As a result it is EXCEPTIONALLY noisy, and there is very little privacy from any other diners. Don't eat in the small dining room (used to be an events room) as they have finished it in all hard surfaces and when full it almost hurts your ears. Not a single sound absorbing surface in that room. The main dining room is very tight now and looks like a cafeteria when considering the seating density The servers were nice enough but not engaging, and of course you couldn't hear what they said most of the time. The bright spot was that the food was very good but not perfect (our short ribs were served lukewarm, not hot). Flavours were great for the Sole salad and the short ribs and presentation and serving size was just right. We were told when reserving that we could not spend more than 90 minutes in the restaurant, which I found snobby for what might have been fine dining, not fast food. However, not a problem as we were served quickly and in and out in under an hour for 2 courses. As I said, next dinner out we will go to our other favourites in KW for a very nice meals - a list that is now...
