ABE ERB - Uptown Waterloo — Restaurant in Waterloo

Went there for my friends bachelor party. Great service, great food and awesome beer. It's a cool looking place! Shame I had not heard of it before. But because of the construction in the area I hadn't been up there in a while. Now that I know it's there I will go back. Tasty Nachos! Yummy burgers! Refreshing brews!

Went a few times after the original review, the service and management at the Waterloo Location are terrible. Went in a on a week day almost no customers there, took 15 minutes to be seated in a nearly empty restaurant. The staff saw us and were just standing at the bar doing nothing. Finally after we sat down the waiter disappeared for another 15 minutes before taking our drink order. Took his sweet time standing at the bar before getting the drinks. Finally gave us the drinks and took off before we could order our food and went back to standing at the bar. My friend had to get up nearly 10 minutes later to fetch the waiter. I can understand time delays during a busy day but it was dead and they were literally standing in a group at the bar.

Went back again gave them another chance had a similar experience. I decided that I would only go for beer.

I usually would call ahead to get the beer as often they had more demand than supply. I understand this is how small brewing companies work and have no problem with it. Often times they would run out of my beer at the Growler filling area/store but would have supply at the front. Every time for 3 months they would fill my growler at the front bar as it was the only supply of the beer I wanted. Called in the next time and asked to get a fill at the front the manager told me I was being, "rude," and none of the staff would do that as it was, "illegal". He then hung up the phone on me.

Absolutely awful experience today. It was supposed to be a "memorable" retirement lunch - and I guess it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. First off, they didn't even have our table setup when we arrived. The restaurant was pretty empty at the time (maybe 2-3 tables with people). Once we got in our orders, we waited...and waited...and waited. Other tables (who came in after us) were getting their food with no mention of how long we would have to keep waiting. We finally started getting our food orders AN HOUR LATER (I'm not kidding). It was so late that a couple of the people at our table had to take their food "to go" in order to avoid being late for meetings. One person had the wrong food order, so our server took it back, and said he'd comp it, but then a few minutes later came with the original order and didn't comp her at all. As for my order - the schnitzel - it was hard as a rock to cut through. To top it all off, they said a big party meant an automatic gratuity of 18% would be added! Our server knew we were already ticked by the long wait but didn't even offer to waive that or hand out some coupons for a complimentary app down the road. He could have made a terrible experience a bit better but failed to do so. Ironically, after the meal when a member of our group asked to speak to the manager, it turned out it was our server! Will NEVER go back - even if I'm not part of a larger group. If the food is really good, you can put up with some awful service. But in this case, we lost out...

An extremely disappointing experience. We started off by calling ahead of time to reserve a table for 2. We were told reservations were not necessary and that a table would be available. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly, however, the hostess said, "Sorry you will have to leave in one hour, we have a special event" OK, that is all well and good, however, when we called earlier, this could have been told to us, that tickets were required or when the event started. After being seated, the server came to take our drink order and we asked what she recommended, she said , "I don't know, pick something from in house". ? Then she came back and to take our food order and one of us informed her that we were a vegetarian. Very annoyed, she said, "Well, they took the veggie burger off the menu, but you could have a salad". Anyway, the vegetarian ordered a salad as a starter, which never came and grilled cheese with fries. The server then says, "That's the kids menu, but we could double the order". They did, in price! The other party ordered Shrimp Tacos. Well, in the 2nd bite, there was a hair cooked into the batter. I understand that this can't always be helped, but it was disgusting nonetheless. The serve took the plate away, but didn't even offer anything else. We were then having a 2nd pint when the server came up and said, "you can finish your beer, but you have to leave in 5 mins". Just over all, it was a very bad experience and very disappointing, considering all the "hype" this place...
