We went for brunch to celebrate both our dating anniversary and our engagement the night before. My only minor complaint was that I made sure to put in the booking that we were celebrating two special milestones and I was hoping they could Offer something to make it extra special, but nothing was mentioned. Again, that’s a minor complaint and I definitely don’t hold it against the restaurant or the staff as they were great. Drinks: My fiancée had the bottomless brunch with mimosas as her drink. 50$ for a 2 hour reservation seemed totally reasonable and the drinks were filled quickly and tasted great. She was able to change between 4 different types of juice and we definitely got our moneys worth. I had coffee, which was really good and topped up regularly, Next time I will definitely do one of their spiked coffees Food: We got the Tuscan cheese bake as our app, it wasn’t what I expected but it was amazing. We got grilled naan instead of the crispy naan chips and that was a good move. The homemade tomato sauce (pomodoro?) and creamy goats cheese went amazing in the naan like making the best pizza I’ve had in a while.
She got the lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote for the entree in the bottomless brunch. They were extremely moist and flavourful, As someone who likes more of a light fluffy pancake, I personally wouldn’t order them, but she talked about how good it was for the next three days and ate every bite. The fresh blueberry compote ontop was all around amazing.
I did the grilled halloumi breakfast sandwich Which was suggested by our lovely waitress. It was absolutely delicious, The spicy aïoli and avocado really helped cut through the salt from the cheese and bacon. The egg helped add a really nice richness and the bun that it was on was nice and fresh with a great chew. When we go back, I definitely think I will be having it again. The fries were pretty good, a little overcooked, but considering how great everything else was, that was a minor detail.
If you’re looking for a bottomless brunch place that’s open Saturday and Sunday I would highly recommend trying Proof out. It wasn’t cheap but for what you get I think it was good value At $110 after tax...
Read moreProof kitchens was another example of a place that was talked up to me and I was excited about, but when I finally visited I was deeply disappointed.
The vibe of the place was a good blend of informal yet polished and I felt comfortable coming in after work without dressing up too much. I ordered a cherry cider, the foraged mushroom soup, and the lamb shank vindaloo.
The cider was interesting but a bit sour for my taste but I was pleased to try something different The waitress was friendly and efficient.
The trouble started with the soup. I had been expected something creamy smooth and earthy but the broth that arrived was overwhelmed with oil and microherbs and the mushrooms were neither in slices nor pureed and instead chopped in bits that resulted in an odd and unpleasant texture.
I was disappointed but I hate complaining at restaraunts so I let it go, but when my main arrived I saw that what I experienced wasn't a one off. The lamb shank itself was barely lukewarm and lacking in flavour. Worse still the sauce was watery and lacking in any discernable spice. The rice lacked plumpness and reminded me of minute rice. Only the pickled onions and riata brought any joy to my mouth. My waitress sensed my disappointment and when I told her my impressions she immediately offered to replace the dish. Because I had a meeting I needed to get to I chose the Cider brined chicken Supreme which promised crispy chicken skin and seasonal veggies with pommel puree. The replacement meal arrived quickly and the breast was moist and flavourful but the skin was flabby and unpleasant and the veggies were burned on one side and soggy on the other
Having neither the time or heart to send it back again I paid my bill and left but won't be going back again. I don't know if this was just an off day for the kitchen but I will not risk shelling out $60 for a night of...
Read moreMy father and I made an appointment to speak to a manager regarding a private dining room rental. We were told we could come in on Monday, April 15th at 6pm to meet with a manager, view the room and discuss event details.
We met with the onsite manager at the time, discussed dates and details and left with him promising he would book the room for us on the requested date and time, and have the event coordinator email us menus and further details.
I waited until the Friday after, April 19, before sending in a private dining inquiry explaining what has happened and that was waiting for the event coordinator to contact us and send menus.
We also had already confirmed the date with immediate family and specific guests.
A week to the day after meeting onsite, I received a response to my email inquiry, separate from our onsite meeting. Hayley, the event coordinator advised us the room was already booked and that we should look at the semi private area or choose another date.
I called the restaurant, hoping she was confused and the booking she was looking at was ours, only to be told it was a wedding that was booked months ago.
When I expressed my confusion and disappointment, the gentleman on the phone said the private event booking system and regular dining system are separate and the manager on duty would not have been able to see that. There was no apology until I further escalated my disappointment and suggested (as someone who has worked as management in hospitality and completed a degree on the subject) that their lack of communication (verbally or systematically) is very disheartening and lacks to provide trust in their establishment.
Please be cautious when booking a private event, and make sure who you are speaking too is capable of completing...
