From the very first impression this place got a thumbs down. There is no disabled parking in the gravel lot outside the restaurant and the uneven surface is a major tripping hazard for anyone with a mobility aid. Furthermore, when we got inside, we were told that backpacks are not allowed in the restaurant as they have had "too many problems before" yet there is no signage indicating this beforehand. It's super unacceptable to ask someone with a disability to have to bring their belongings back to their car parked far from the door on a really uneven surface because of some arbitrary policy. The next thing that turned us off was the lack of service. Our server herself was lovely, but she was working by herself having to tend to multiple tables and one large party. This is not a failure on her part, but rather on the part of management for understaffing. Because of the lack of staff, our waitress was unable to clear away the dirty dishes from our appetizer before our main course came out and between the condiment rack, the drink menu, and the dirty dishes, we were struggling for space. Additionally, our main course came out just minutes after our appetizer had - we had barely even had a chance to touch it yet once it cooled to an edible temperature before we were being brought our mains. The kitchen needs to work on timing. The final nail in the coffin was the food. While it wasn't terrible, it also wasn't balanced. The pub house salad was too aggressively acidic. There was no relief from the vinegar and the peppery notes in the arugula. The few cranberries and pecans in the salad did nothing to detract from the overwhelming bite. The blackened chicken sandwich had a good bit of heat to it, but it was so incredibly salty that it was barely edible. The chicken was cooked nicely and super juicy, but the flavor was just off-putting. All in all, I'm not in a hurry to...
Read moreWe are long time barneys patrons To the point where we know all the servers by name and are close friends with many staff members. Tonight we went for wing night and the wings were great . But I am a life long fan of mexican food having lived in Texas for 15 years I have eaten and enjoyed more than my share of mexican food . So barneys is hosting a mexican menu and I was eager to try and enjoy some good mexican food. Well I was terribly disappointed I must say if you have no idea how to prepare mexican food then don't bother I ordered the beef quesadilla. Well it was so off the scale spicy that I went blind in one eye ( and I love very spicy food ) But this tripe was garish at best First you never use ground beef in a quesadilla you instead use shredded beef. Fyi prepare you jalapeños by removing the seeds this way it's flavored but you won't go blind eating the dish This dish requires more than just beef and jalapeños but apparently no one bothered to tell the greatly unskilled cook ( i say cook because there is no way that the individual who made this is a chef). If you are going to offer a menu please make sure you know how to prepare the dishes you say you know how to make In the end it was completely inedible and I returned the dish as unsatisfactory and I was still billed for the dish . This was not acceptable. If you have no idea what you are doing then don't do it. We were very unhappy with this visit and really don't know if we will be back This was...
Read moreUnexpected fantastic experience in the heart of Wetaskiwin today.
I knew the food was better than average, having stopped with friends this past Fall, as well as the service, cleanliness and professional staff and amenities (big bar, lots of TVs, comfortable booths and my favourite - a fireside table with a nice view of the staff and other diners.
Today we were geeeted promptly by bar staff who sat us and took our drink order within seconds of landing... and then we met our server - Kelcie,, who immediately won us over with her incredible sense of humour and effortless grace and wit.
Despite it being only her second shift, she made us feel special and taken care of, and warmed our hearts with her presence, smile and charming deadpan comic timing. 😊
She is a polished gem hidden among the barstools and other congenial and lovely staff. For a couple of ol bachelor codgers like us, this dinner was truly a gift to be remembered for a while.
We will be back soon. 🤗
Food was excellent, portions perfect, and taste, freshness and quality were all second to none.
I am smiling even now thinking about our experience in the warm fireside company of Kelcie and her fellow staff, and would pay cover charge for her comedy routine while we enjoy the weekly specials (today, Sunday, was $12 appetizers. fantastic 🎅)
Thank you so much Barney's and Kelciefor cheering up the Grinch and his ol hound dawg Max. 🐕 💋
Ps. The maple bacon poutine...
