I have to admit, I had a misconception about BarDown Gastropub located at Whitby's Iroquois Sports and Recreation Centre. I assumed it was primarily a sports bar that served pub grub. I was wrong!

"Bar down" is actually a hockey term that describes when a puck hits the bottom of the crossbar and goes straight into the net. It's also known as "bar south".

While they do serve adult beverages, it's more of a family restaurant. Their food is phenomenal, thanks to Chef John Charles. My friends and I had the pleasure of dining there recently and we were more than happy with the food and ambiance.

Here's what we enjoyed: • Ahi Tuna Poke • Street Fish Taco • Truly Canadian Detroit Style Pizza • BarDown Smash Burger • Jerk Chicken Penne • Buttermilk Chicken Tenders • BarDown Nachos with Chili • Cajun Roasted Red Pepper Wings • Garlic Parm Wings

Every bite of every dish was a treat but my personal favourites would have to include the Poke, Fish Tacos, Smash Burger, and Jerk Chicken Penne. It was all good, with generous portions.

I highly recommend this place, whether dining solo, with friends, or with family. Check them out at 500 Victoria St...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at BarDown, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The fast service was impressive, making sure we never had to wait long for our orders. The food was delicious and exceeded our expectations, with a variety of options that catered to our diverse tastes.

One thing that truly stood out was the attentiveness of the servers. They not only provided excellent service but also remembered returning customers, making us feel welcomed and valued. It added a personal touch that made our visit even more enjoyable.

Bardown is also a fantastic sports bar, with a lively atmosphere perfect for catching a game with friends. The multiple screens and great seating arrangement ensured that we had the best view no matter where we sat.

Overall, I highly recommend BarDown for anyone looking for a great dining experience combined with a vibrant sports bar atmosphere. Whether you're there for the food, the service, or the sports,...

Bardown has become our go-to spot whenever we’re at the rink! Whether it’s grabbing a quick drink during the kids’ practice or sitting down for a meal with the whole family afterward, this place delivers every time. The atmosphere is perfect — laid-back and welcoming, with a great view of the arena action on the big screens.

What really sets Bardown apart is how accommodating the staff are. We had a few specific requests for one of our family members with dietary restrictions, and they went out of their way to make sure everything was just right — no hassle, just genuine hospitality.

Highly recommend it to any families looking for a solid hangout spot with good food, great service, and an...

The Whitby Wild Ringette U10 Team celebrated a great tourney silver medal 🥈 with our friends at BarDown! The service was excellent. We had twelve families join us and the drink and food orders were dealt with promptly. The food was served hot and the portion sizes plentiful. The parents and kids really enjoyed the atmosphere and friendly service. It was nice to see one of my sons old hockey teammates Drew Cairns working hard, he is a role model to the other 2006 kids working two jobs and studying for University! I would recommend BarDown to my Emergency Service family as well as anyone that enjoys great service, plentiful tasty food at a competitive price!! Best of luck in 2024!

A true Gastropub; great food, and beer. Since it’s at the arena, they are excellent at accommodating large groups with lots of children. We did have to wait a little bit for a seat because there wasn’t enough staff for them to open more sections. I don’t blame them, they just want to make sure their customers get good service.
