We came in not expecting much but the overwhelming 5 star reviews and the TikTok fame made us come in and check it out.
Right off the bat we are faced with a smile and an excellent professional service, the owner is also around to answer any questions with a smile as we could tell the pride they had for the business.
My partner has visited too many cafes to keep count of and she is insisting I say this is the BEST one she has been to in Canada. The local business is part of the custom furniture manufacturing and they have incorporated the aesthetics into the cafe beautifully. However, the pluses don’t end there as the quality of their craft is as good as the atmosphere, the drip coffee was smooth and the Cani-cano (Americano) was done perfectly, on top of that they had fantastic cakes made by themselves with locally sourced ingredients. We had the carrot cake (moist, tasty and on the sweet side) and gluten free almond honey (local honey, not too sweet and not dry at all).
The prices were also more than reasonable: 2 coffees came up to 6 and the 2 cakes were 5. I was also very impressed by the fact that they did not push for a tip and the price presented was the final cost!
If you read until here then support your wonderful local business as their prices, quality and service exceeds chain cafes by miles!
tldr: Truly a magical spot for a date, work session or just get together with friends (they have card games to play with for free). Check it out, enjoy the vibe and enjoy high quality coffee and pastries. Will be back...
Read moreThis café is certainly a destination because of the incredibly interesting setting, decor, and industrial feel. We were served by the owner of the café and the service was exemplary. It was a very hot day when we visited and to accompany our coffee she provided us with a free bottle of water.
I ordered an Americano, which was brewed in a French press. She did warn me of that and the coffee I had was a wonderful rich, dark roast prepared well in the French press. Due to the lack of a state-of-the-art espresso brewing machine, it may be that some of their espresso drinks are not easy to execute, but mine was good.
This café is located in a portion of a functioning concrete moulding factory. It is my understanding that the family that runs. the factory also has developed the café. For that reason the decor, and some of the café tables, are constructed from poured concrete and are absolutely beautiful. There are two levels to the café, which provides ample seating and wonderful nooks for quiet conversations.
This is a really carefully and lovingly constructed coffee experience and I would encourage anyone in the area to...
Read moreThe Concrete Cafe is truly a hidden gem in Whitby, hands down the best cafe in town. It offers two seating areas: the cozy main floor and a quieter, more private space upstairs if you’re looking to unwind or have a more intimate conversation.
The entire space is beautifully designed, filled with unique vintage decor that gives the place a warm and artistic vibe. Soft jazz music plays in the background, adding to the relaxing atmosphere.
I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Owen, one of the owners, who is also a talented furniture designer and builder. Almost all of the furniture inside the cafe was handcrafted by him in the workshop located just next door. That personal touch adds so much character to the space.
If you’re in Whitby, this spot is an...
