Weâve been here countless times and today, we could really tell the difference with everything. We suspect it may be under new ownership. We asked but they insisted it was not. If that is the case, the food is subpar. We order chicken karaage, assorted tempura, shoyu ramen and black knight ramen. Greeted immediately upon entering, weâre seated immediately then a long intro about their tasting menu and how they came to introduce it - details which are not needed. Karaage was fried too long and greasy. Chicken dried out from being cooked too long, batter that was on it had a burnt taste and greasy. Also a piece of cartilage left on one of them that my 3 year old ended up crunching on. Tempura wasnât any better. Batter was thick and had an odd fishy odour to it. The sweet potato was sliced paper thin but the batter on it was thick and terribly greasy. Fried in oil that wasnât hot enough. True Japanese tempura is not thick or greasy like that. More On the ramen. Charsiu wasnât tender, chewy and had an aroma of frost bite. Bamboo wasnât tender, just super chunky and chewy. Like other reviews, the egg was oddly cold. Noodles were undercooked. Now the broth. It wasnât the thick, creamy rich broth weâve always had. Milky, watery and just tasted like chicken bouillon powder. Filled with salt and msg - to the point that we only ate 20 min ago and weâre all dying of thirst. Service wasnât bad but definitely overboard. We were interrupted a total of 13 times to ask how the food was and whether we were okay. Would have been nice to just be left to enjoy our meal and conversation. When we asked if ownership changed, the server stuttered then mumbled âitâs always been the same.â Asked us to give her specific feedback on a post it note- no thank you. One of the cooks came out to do the billing and asked again if food was okay, we replied and let her know itâs different from previous visits. Atmosphere was meh. We sat near the front and every time the bathroom door opened and closed, you get waft of strong urine door. Terribly unappetizing and an indication it is not cleaned properly so just imagine the kitchen state. Th whole time we were there all we could hear was laughing and yelling in the kitchen. Unprofessional and also distracting. Tables had a stickiness to them and the cloth used to wipe them smelled of musty moldy damp cloth odor. My daughterâs bowl had some crusted on food from not being cleaned properly. And our water cups all had some stuck on food residue. For $80 we will NOT be back and will also be letting our friends and...
Read moreI ordered take-out and had my father pick it up for me. We've ordered here before. In fact, we used to dine-in very frequently as a family - we cannot deny, the food used to be very good. However, our experience tonight was quite inadequate. To contextualize, we have been eating from Ippon Ramen since opening. The service was excellent, the owner is very kind, and the cooks were exceptional. The last time we dined-in was a month ago and although the service was dreadfully slow and quite a disarray (we had assumed the server was new just from observing her behaviour at the time + it was quite busy, so we tipped her anyway), the food was very appetizing.
I'm not sure where the change was, but for our take-out tonight, we noticed that the portions for the rice bowls (dons) seemed smaller than usual, the noodles were so much more soggier (some, barely cooked!), and the octopus ball appetizer (takoyaki) tasted burnt on the outside. We had added special notes for my sibling's karaage don, requesting for "extra mayo" on the side as well as sweet corn on top (which we had to purchase as extra). While they got the sweet corn (we got it on the side), the extra mayo was terribly dumped all over the karaage don, that it left both the chicken and the rice soggy. Our biggest concern on top of that was the portion of our bowls. We felt like the food portions dining-in served us more food than taking it out and that disappointed us the most about this evening's dinner.
Ippon Ramen's dishes have ALWAYS left us feeling full; and that may have been the biggest disappointment of it all. While this review is subjective and everyone's experiences differ greatly, all I can say now is that while the food has always been good, it won't be as great as it used to be. Perhaps we will come again, but not...
Read moreIâve become quite the ramen enthusiast since being introduced to the dish early last year. Since then, Iâve explored as many ramen spots as possible, enjoying the depth of flavors that this dish can offer. Sadly, my experience at Ippon Ramen left much to be desired, and itâs with reluctance that I share this review.
From the moment I walked in, the first thing that hit me was the off-putting smell of the broth. It wasnât just a subtle hint of an unappetizing aromaâit was overpowering and unpleasant. This immediately made me wary about what was to come, and unfortunately, my suspicions were confirmed when the ramen was served.
The broth, which should have been rich and comforting, felt thin and lacked depth in flavor. The limited menu didnât leave much room for variety, and while I appreciate simplicity, it seemed that the ingredients didnât work in harmony. The noodles were okay, but they didnât stand out. Overall, the food felt lacking in taste and substance, failing to match the high standards Iâve come to expect from ramen.
I truly wish my experience was more positive, as I know how much people love this spot. But sadly, I wonât be returning, and I canât recommend Ippon Ramen to fellow ramen lovers looking for a truly...
