I had heard great things about this coffee shop and was genuinely excited to try it. But my experience left me feeling humiliated and deeply uncomfortable.
As a person of colour, my friend and I were the only non-white customers there. We couldnât help but notice a difference in the way we were treated. We were quietly sitting and chatting when the male owner came over and asked us to leave, saying others were waiting for a table. But he didn't ask people who had been seated before us to leave. There was no posted seating limit or policy, and the interaction felt abrupt and targeted.
When we asked if there was a specific seating ruleâor if we were being asked to leave because weâre POCâhe deflected by saying, âI have friends who are coloured.â Weâve heard that before, and it doesnât excuse the experience.
He later told us we could stay, but by then, the damage was done. As we left, he followed us to the parking lot and awkwardly offered us cookiesâclearly realizing what he had just said and done.
I wasnât planning to write this review, but as I sit here feeling awful, I realize I donât want to stay silent. No one deserves to feel out of place or singled out because of who they are. And judging by other reviews, this isnât the first time something like this has happened here.
I hope this place takes accountability and starts treating every customer with respectâregardless of their background. Better customer service and inclusion training is...
Read moreWe stopped by shortly after opening on a gorgeous Friday morning. The lineup was out the door and their indoor seating area was pretty full. It is a cute little shop with a shaded seating area with bistro tables outside, they were about half full.
When we made it to the front, we placed our order. Unfortunately, a scone I wanted to try was sold out, when I enquired if they had more, I was told they would 'soon'. I didn't know exactly what that meant, so, I stuck with our drink order. We each got a July specialty drink, a banana pudding iced latte and a banana pudding iced matcha. As we paid and shuffled over to wait for our drinks, the lady working the oven loaded the scones I wanted into the display case. I was disappointed but soldiered on.
The lady making the drinks was a machine, she was cranking them out with amazing speed. Unfortunately, ours were mixed up. My companion ordered oat milk, which was put in mine. When informed of the mistake, the correct order was quickly prepared and we were off to the car to sample our choices.
The drinks were delicious and beautifully presented, but, at close to $10 per drink, I was a bit shocked at their size.
The atmosphere was great, the staff were quick, friendly and polite. It's a great place, but, I can't see myself there very often, maybe a special treat every...
Read moreDonât sleep on this! M and L motors was on my list since I discovered the pink coffee trailer at vandemeres nursery. I waited way too long to show my face at this establishment. Wow! I tried the shaken espressos and the baked goods. Amazing Scones and cookies. The baked goods are made in house and fresh that dayâŠI asked.
I went four days in a row! And every time I went there - theyâre making scones fresh to keep up with the crowds coming in. I was so impressed. The service I experienced was so nice and down to earth. I spoke with several employees and the owner. All were grateful to have customers and they love what they do. To me, the drinks and definitely the food beats out the other homemade coffee places Iâve tried (souk and pink coffee trailer). I donât want to try another place - this is the one for me. Why bother elsewhere when you know the drinks and food are made in front of...
