I love good food, good variety, good service, and good value. The Brock House in Whitby offers all of that in their Sunday Brunch Buffet. My friends and I recently enjoyed this offering and really stuffed ourselves!
The omelette station, with live cooking was a very popular start for many diners. Omelettes are cooked to order, with your choice of ingredients. Despite the chefs handling four orders at a time, this station got backed up a bit but was worth waiting for.
A carvery was right next to the omelette station, serving up roast beef. Freshly made pizzas shared space with the carvery, offering a variety of toppings. I liked the light crispy crust.
The main buffet station had chafing pans with lots of choices, including bacon, eggs, potatoes, pasta and more, as well as waffles. It was all fresh and delicious! A simple salad bar was nearby.
The main bar was repurposed for desserts and there were lots of choices, including cookies, brownies, and fresh fruits.
At CDN$23.90 per person, this was a really good value, with more delicious choices than one can consume. The service was excellent, with food stations being replenished frequently, used plates being cleared efficiently, and water glasses always filled - all done with a smile! Check them out! Reservations are highly recommended!
November 2023
This was my first time dining at The Brock House in Whitby. It's an intimate place offering comfort food, family dining, a full service bar, pizza oven, and more. They have something for every desire.
Our party of seven came for dinner on a Friday evening. We started light, by sharing some Focaccia, and Mini Yorkies (Yorkshire pudding cups, mashed potatoes, shaved prime rib, mushroom beef gravy).
For our mains, we had the Short Rib Pizza, Korean Fried Chicken + Waffles, Pork Schnitzel, Slow Braised Boneless Beef Short Rib, and the Pasta Special of the Day, which included seafood in a creamy sauce. Everything was quite good, and very reasonably priced.
The food, service, and ambiance at this place were all very good. I would most...
Read moreHaving been to Brock house several times for dinner, I thought that I would try their Sunday brunch after reading such good reviews.
The service was very good, attentive and polite and there were a few items on the buffet that were also good, particularly the sausages, they were a good temperature and tasty. The rest of the buffet wasn't quite as good. The croissant french toast was stale, the mini croissants on the pastries section were also stale. The bacon was like cardboard and more salty than the bacon I've had at other restaurants. The scrambled egg was just OK. On the carvery there was a very small roast of beef, it was actually tender and tasty. It would have been good to have one other meat choice and perhaps some roast potatoes/veg/yorkshire pudding. I would have appreciated a bigger selection of salad items, I could only see one bowl of mixed greens.
I would have prefered the condiments to be at each table, being in dispensers at the end of the buffet meant that everyone was touching the same dispensers - the handles for the syrup dispensers were sticky with syrup and the ketchup pump handle was also sticky. There was a pizza and an omelette station, both looked good, but I didn't want to wait in the lineup.
I arrived at 10:30 when the buffet opened. The only item that I tried that was hot was the sausage, everything else was barely warm. I thought I'd have a better chance of getting fresh, hot food if I arrived early, so I was surprised that some of the food was stale. Some seemed like it had been prepared much too far in advance. When I went for a second visit, some of the items that had been replenished were much hotter and fresher, so going early may not be the best strategy.
It wasn't the widest selection of items, but there were plenty of options to fill up on. It's definitely not as varied as the Hot House buffet, but then again it's not $48 either, so all in all, if you want a breakfast/brunch buffet and don't want to drive into TO and pay for parking, this is...
Read moreThe 5 Neat Guys (our Breakfast club) on a mission for a memorable brunch ventured to Brock House this Sunday. Reviews online were promising, and the allure of a disappearing art form - the true brunch experience - was too strong to resist. We weren't disappointed!
The Debate: Brunch vs. Breakfast? We argued playfully about whether this qualified for our standard review since it differed from a typical breakfast. Regardless, it was a delightful return to a bygone era.
Price Point: Expect to pay around $32-$35 per person after tax and tip. Reservations are a must, as this place is booming!
Ambiance: A peaceful and calming atmosphere with ample space. Unlike many cramped buffets, Brock House offered a comfortable distance between tables. The interior design was clean and sophisticated.
Highlights:
• Stellar Omelette Station: A big shout-out to the Durham college students expertly whipping up omelettes! • Dual Lane Buffet: This ingenious design kept the flow moving smoothly, with no dreaded "bacon shortage" often encountered at buffets. • Stone-Cooked Pizza: This unexpected gem might be the best buffet pizza we've ever had! • Top-Notch Service: Our coffee cups were magically refilled without us even asking.
Areas for Improvement:
• Toast Woes: The toast system needs some TLC. It took multiple cycles to achieve a decent level of browning. • Missing Pancakes: Pancakes were absent, much to the disappointment of some in our group. • Omelette Station Placement: The line for the omelette station felt a bit awkward, potentially blocking the flow of both staff and patrons.
Overall:
If you're seeking a relaxed and unhurried brunch experience at a reasonable price, regardless of your group size, then Brock House is a strong...
