At first I wasn't too convinced that the restaurant would be able to hold up to the stiff local competition (Sushi Mountain) but honestly I had a very good experience here. Firstly, my server asked us if we wanted water or green tea which was very nice because frankly I wanted both. When the water was served it was served with a slight lemon taste in it because of the lemons present within the pitcher itself, which was a very nice touch. I did find the menu slightly difficult to tackle as a first timer but I found something I liked in the combo section and so did my partner. The food was quite tasty and our server was very attentive and kind with us (and especially our very needy neighbour table). Atmosphere-wise, the restaurant is really well done, I thought the place looked extremely well maintained, modern, and yet kept some traditional artwork on the walls (with a funny modern twist). The price was quite fair in the end but I did go during a sale event which gave 20% off, so keep in mind that without that sale you will likely come out spending around 50$ for 2 people. Which isn't horrible and I'm not saying that, but that's just a fair estimate based on what I experienced. I suppose the only criticism I have at all was with the music which was incredibly sappy and lame modern pop music. Honestly I would have rather listened to anything else, even some traditional music with maybe a shamisen would have been preferred over that garbage. Hell, I'd even take emo screamo over that; please, just change the radio guys.
So all in all, I had a great experience here and I'll be back again at some...
Read moreI accidentally stumbled upon this spot while browsing Uber Eats only to realize that it's literally a 2 minute drive from my place so I figured I'd rather go in-person and eat in. I must say that I was not disappointed and pleasantly surprised by how good this place is. I ordered the vegetable and shrimp tempura, Flame and Caterpillar Dragon rolls respectively.
The rolls were absolutely delicious and uniquely crafted. Almost seemed like a gourmet sushi spot. I've been to pretty much every sushi restaurant in Durham and this has my vote hands down. The server was also super friendly and even offered me complimentary miso soup on the house which I had to politely decline since I don't like soup lol. They haven't done any publicity / advertisements for their spot and for now are reliant completely on word of mouth so please do try it and spread a good word.
The restaurant in itself is also very inviting and comforting decor wise. Rest assured, this my new go to sushi spot! I'd like to thank the server for being so kind and welcoming in general.
P.S. Their prices are super reasonable which is cherry...
Read moreMy long overdue review of this place. I have already been here uncountable times with uncountable people, each time with a larger group. So much so that I've become friends with the people here.
The food is underrated, why I say that is when you see lower sushi prices you immediately imagine low quality. But my god the quality of the sushi and the sashimi at younee is unbelievable. I'll update this review further with a list and pictures of my favourite items on the menu later.
The staff are absolutely amazing and always accommodating. We have went here with a group of 30 during peak hours and was still accomodated all together in a short time.
To top it off, there is always some deals going on, free ice cream, discounts, etc. 30$ per person and you would have to stuff yourself to finish the food.
I feel like this place is a hidden gem in Durham, we have stopped going to Toronto for Sushi since finding this place. Although I would hate to have to wait in lines in the future, but when younee gets its due credit, i expect there would be line ups of patrons all the time. For now, its still...
