I suggest staying far away from this restaurant unless you are into an overall dirty restaurant and hair in your food. Went out for dinner with my boyfriend, both getting all you can eat. The servers brought out the first few items, tempura, cheese wontons, beef teriyaki etc, no sushi at this point. After being at the restaurant for twenty minutes or so the sushi rolls that we ordered came out. My boyfriend took a piece and as I went to take mine I noticed hair on the food. We right away called the waitress over to show her the hair in our food. The waitress didn’t apologize, took the food away and said to order more. I don’t know about everyone else, but when I find hair in my food my stomach starts turning and no longer can I eat. We asked for the bill, only assuming there would be some sort of compensation. The manager came over and said he would discount our bill, we said thank you and waited. Still hadn’t received a single apology for the hair that was in our food. When the bill came over my jaw just about hit the floor. $65 and change for not even one serving at an all you can eat restaurant. The so called “discount” was 10%. Not even the tax. After seeing this we asked to speak to the manager. The manager proceeded to tell us that we should have just ignored the hair and kept on eating. I explained that although he may be able to do that, his staffs mess up has now ruined my dinner. I said that it was ridiculous that he expected us to pay this absurd amount. He said he would go “work something out”. When he came back he had individually priced out what we had eaten make the bill about $5 cheaper than the first bill he had brought out. I explained to him that when you come for all you can eat you expect to pay one price, not to have it all broken down when the restaurant messes up. He said this was the best he could do. I said that there was no way we were paying that amount. I honestly felt that we shouldn’t have to pay for anything, but that’s just my opinion. After talking back and forth for quite some time my boyfriend, to just get us out of the restaurant at this point, said that we would pay for one meal and that was it. He came back with the bill for one all you can eat meal, plus our drinks (a Diet Coke and an iced tea), we gave him cash and left. After the experience we had we will never be returning. Not only was our dinner out ruined because of the hair found in our food, but the manager was absolutely horrible. His customer service skills are more...
Read moreMy family have enjoyed dining at Maki Sushi since they opened their 1st restaurant near the Go Station at Stouffville. We enjoyed the good food and their services, and admired the friendly and hard-working husband and wife owners. However, we noticed the couple is no longer visible lately, and we were informed they are busy with a branch opened at downtown Toronto. Sadly, We noticed too the services of their staff no longer as good. But we still dined there occassionally, even if it has become pricey.
Yesterday, Aug.10, 2018, my son invited my husband and I (seniors at 80 and 72 years old respectively)to go there again. As soon as we were seated, i requested to transfer to a table across from us, because our table was facing the big glass window, and the sun (at 5:45 pm) was bothering me. i was so surprised the young chinese waitress said no. The whole big place then was almost empty, with just about 3 small tables occupied. And since we had not yet ordered , there were no dishes to be tranfered with us.
Until after we had our meal, and when we left at 7 PM, the table right across from us, which was right under the said glass window was not even occupied.
2nd. My son was ordering for us, and he ordered a large bowl of Beef Udon soup for my husband, Japanese chicken fried rice (a huge plate) and Salmon Terriyaki for me, and for himself, the Eat all You can. Without a smile on her face, the waitress commented " You know you can not share?"
I have never been more insulted. How cheap does she think we are? How much does she think an 80 and 72 year old can consume? In fact, at the end, I had to take home half of my Fried Rice order. By the way, my Salmon Terriyaki that came was so far off in quality from the picture as shown in your Tablet Menu.
3rd. As we were paying our bill, my husband asked the waitress : " the LAO PANS (owners) don't come here anymore ?" Without blinking an eye, she answered "the LAO PANS don't need to work!" How respectful is that for an employee to say of her employers. Is she resenting that she Is doing all the work for the owners?
I voiced my complains with the Manager just before we left. But i think the presence of the owners are needed to preserve the quality of their food...
Read moreTL;DR - Good for lunch. Dinner service leaves a lot (emphasis on a lot) to be desired. Read my dinner service rant below for details.
*This blurb only applies for lunch service now The only AYCE sushi place in Stouffville. And y'know what? It's actually pretty good (on par with my usual place). I went for weekend lunch. The sushi rice was fresh, fish was also fresh (they passed my "snapper test" - the snapper tasted like snapper). The tempura was really good and they have fried milk. The wings are also surprisingly solid. Definitely recommended.
Update: Went for lunch again. Snapper still tastes like snapper. Lunch sill highly recommend.
Dinner update (long rant): I showed up for dinner service, I've been to a lot of AYCE sushi places in York Region, and this is probably the first time I remember being cut this short on the first order.
Items we ordered never showed up (the beef and tuna takaki, the torched sushi, and the snapper sushi - every time I attempted to order it, it just never showed up), while other items (such as my favorite fish snapper as well as octopus sushi) were greatly cut down by as much as 80% (ie I ordered 10 pieces of snapper sashimi on the first order, but only 2 fairly thin slices arrived, and more or less the same for the octopus sushi). Subsequent orders were exactly the same. If this was for orders 2 or 3 I would sort-of understand, but this was on the first order, which I feel is unacceptable.
If this is a stock issue, I would've understood and not be this upset if we were told about this, or if the items were even marked as unavailable on the menu, which I know they can do since the ika sushi & sashimi were both marked as unavailable on the menu, but please don't get my hopes up when I order a plate of beef tataki and it just never shows up.
On the bright side - service and serving speed were still on point and fast for the items that did show up, and whatever did show up was still pretty good, especially the coconut shrimp.
Due to this rather upsetting dinner experience, I have removed 1 star from my rating. I will not return for dinner service again. Will still show up for lunch once every few months though, that's still good (I hope), will update again next...
