My life partner and I visited the Morrison Cafe at the corner of Johnson Road and Pacific Avenue on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago just before Halloween. Boy are we glad we did, Jasmine our waitress to start with was amazing, super friendly and so accommodating for everything and it wasn't too busy so we got some exceptional service not to say that it wouldn't have been that way if the place was full. We started off with the seafood salmon dinner and a good bottle of wine. The wine was excellent and so was the seafood salmon along with a great solid potato wedges and superbly flavored vegetables, everything was exceptional except for the salmon with the shrimp and scallops was not as flavorful as we would have liked with the dill sauce however it was still very acceptable. Then we decided to try the two-piece fish and chip dinner and they gave us half of the regular fries and half of the Masala fries and that was outstanding and the tartar sauce was amazing as well. We were full and by then we had been there over an hour and a half and then Abby the owner showed up and asked if we'd ever tried his carrot cake and we are not super big on desserts however Abby was gracious enough the owner to give us a complimentary piece of carrot cake to try and it was truly the best carrot cake I've ever had both of us actually. It was so good I asked what would you charge for a whole tray as I we were going to a Halloween party the next day. So we negotiated a great price and I showed up the next day to pick it up and it was actually two full trays we froze one and took the other to the Halloween party and it was a huge hit. Abby even gave me a cake serving knife which I will be returning in the next few days. This was a truly amazing experience and if you haven't tried out the Morrison Cafe at either of their two locations you're in for a great treat it is not just for breakfast or brunch or lunch please try out their dinner and please see the ...
Read moreMy husband and I decided to try the new Morrison Cafe in White Rock for a birthday dinner. We ordered the Seafood Sockeye Salmon meal and Guinness steak sandwich. We requested Caesar salads with both meals.we also ordered beer and wine to accompany the meal.
Caesar salads were great.
Generally I stay away from ordering Salmon as I'm afraid the Salmon will be a frozen steak and not fresh. I should have listened to my instincts. Salmon was served with dill sauce and had tidbits of minced scallops and shrimp pieces. The salmon was dry and not too different from frozen salmon steaks we have bought at the grocery store.
My husband ordered the Guinness steak sandwich - he said the steak was tough with lots of grissel. Onions were well cooked, mushrooms were undercooked and rubbery. Bread was fresh but would have been better toasted or on a crustier bun.
Waitress mentioned that the dinner time isn't usually busy and they are better known for great breakfasts... She asked if the food was ok and then asked if it was edible?
Food was edible but we didn't feel like it was a treat to go out for dinner
On a side note when we approached the restaurant there was a staff member sleeping at a table at the west patio area. I'm sure they were probably waiting to be picked up after work - however it doesn't present a professional image for the restaurant. We only mention this as it's not the first time we have seen a staff member with their head down at a...
Read moreThe bad: Very disappointed in the quality of food. Ham appeared to be deli slices from a grocery store, poached eggs were not done properly and asked for medium, came overdone. No flavour with the hollandaise sauce. Vegetables were not cooked in any of the dishes. Guacamole was from a bag. Very very overpriced, 20+ each meal. All honesty chain restaurants have better food (and that is not saying much).
The good: Service was very nice, no issues.
To the owners reply: Clearly there is a lack of accountability and insight on your behalf, which is well seen with your response. I did not ask for “home made ham” but was not expecting deli meat style Black Forest ham, as you mentioned. The guacamole? Sure, it may be the best “from a bag” far from using fresh ingredients. Anyways good luck with the business, customers will see for themselves, and maybe with time the food will get better. As I mentioned, no issues with service, ambiance was great. I did not ask for an apology, just an honest review. Your prices are higher than well known breakfast places (jam cafe, wooden spoon, oeb) and quality is far from any, just...
