Flavors of Mexico is a family-owned, colourful and casual restaurant serving a variety of traditional Mexican meals.
The menu featured enchiladas, quesadillas, tacos, burritos and more. Almost all of their menu had the option to be made vegetarian or vegan and most items were gluten-free as well (using corn tortillas). The restaurant was colourfully decorated with brightly painted walls and Mexican-inspired decor.
A younger child in the family and an older teen were the restaurant's servers and they were friendly and professional.
I ordered the enchiladas rojas with rice instead of meat. The dish came with two enchiladas, Mexican rice and refried beans. I also tried the appetizer trio with warm tortilla chips, salsa, guacamole and pico de gallo. The food was flavourful, fresh and tasted authentic and home-cooked. It did take a little while for the food to be cooked, but there were quite a few people in the restaurant at the time and I am assuming that everything was cooked from scratch. Having traveled to various areas of Mexico numerous times, I can say that my meal tasted pretty authentic. It could have been a little spicier, but other than that, it was great.
The food was delicious and I had a great experience and would return again...
Read moreMy wife and I LOVE Mexican food! As for Flavors of Mexico, there's nothing wrong with the menu options here. We both enjoyed our meal. However, it does not compare well to Mexican restaurants like Charos & Tequila, or Casa Mexico just south of the border, our go-to Mexican restaurants. I have 3 gripes with this particular restaurant. The first would be the salsa. The salsa here is a runny, slightly spicy sauce with some green onion sprinkled in, not my idea or preference of salsa. The 2nd would be the guacamole. It seems to be more of a cilantro paste with maybe a bit of avocado thrown in. Both were disappointing. The 3rd gripe I had was the lack of complimentary chips & salsa. I can't recall the last time I was at a Mexican restaurant that didn't offer these for free. Here they will cost you $6.00. Overall, the issues we had won't keep us from coming back, but like I said, we would sooner take a 2 hour drive south for...
