I've been visiting Calabria for many years to purchase my wines & pastas. The last few experiences there weren't amazing. Awhile back 2 employees complaining about someone at the front desk. Thought nothing further about it other than probably not the most professional thing to say in front of a customer.
But today I'm picking up some wine and the female cashier says "better put these in a bag so you don't look like a whino" Like what? Why would you say that? Then when I thought I couldn't get more offended, I handed her my cash, in her disappointment she was shocked by this gesture. She was appalled that I would pay with cash rather than a credit card. Implying that I was slowing her long line up. I looked behind me and there were 2 people standing in line. In my 20 years of working retail I've never been slowed down by a cash sale. Unless someone was grabbing a bunch of change. Which I was not. I gave her 2x $20bills.
Regardless, of how I paid or what my purchase may have been. This behavior was unprofessional and uncalled for. This seems to be a pattern for this company.
Obviously feeling like my business is not important, I will be taking it elsewhere. I do not plan on returning here after being...

Read moreThis is a great, modest-sized market and wine store. As a market it's great for finding those kinda rare food items (like truffle oil or unusual pastas or canned sauces). The deli has a great selection of meats, and definitely has the best selection of cheeses for miles. There's a great selection of ready for the oven meals such as lasagna and manicotti, and you can buy their pizza dough and sauce if you want to build your own at home. They fit a surprisingly large selection of really good wines into a relatively small area. The pizza is renowned in the area - medium thickness crust, great fresh tomato sauce, and abundant toppings. If you want pickup on a busy night (like Friday around supper time), call at least 45 minutes in advance. There's typically a lot of very helpful staff around to help out. We've been going there for years, and love supporting a local family-run business whenever we can instead of going to the big grocery stores that are nearby. You should definitely...
