We found this place from a video review that wpgeats posted on instagram and decided to give it a try. The restaurant was packed and there was a small line of guests waiting to be seated, which we took to be a good sign. But once I saw how tiny the buffet was (there were maybe 15 food choices available on a Friday night), I knew we were possibly in for a letdown. Service was nonexistent; we had to ask for waters about halfway through choking down our meal. The server put her fingers all over the rim of the cups of water as she set them down, which is a wicked ick for me (especially in a post-Covid world, that’s just a big no-no). The lo mein and fried rice were mostly flavorless as was the spring roll, the spicy chicken wasn’t spicy or flavorful and it was VERY dry. The fried shrimp had more batter than an entire Popeye’s restaurant per piece of shrimp, and even the sweet and sour sauce was crappy, which we mixed with soy sauce to dip the spring roll, fried fish pieces (those were okay), and fried shrimp. The only part of the meal that was halfway decent was the broccoli in the mixed vegetables, which isn’t saying much.
The table we were seated at was maybe 18 inches from the guests next to us on either side, and every time they got up to go to the buffet again, they jostled our table and nearly knocked our waters over. Truly the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had in my life. For 40$ for 2 people to just have access to the buffet (no drinks or anything, not that we were asked if we wanted a drink anyway) you might as well go to the grocery store and try making some of these items myself. I’m not well versed in pan-Asian cooking but even I could have made a better lo mein and fried rice! 0/10 would NOT recommend. Go literally...
Read moreWe don't normally write reviews, but felt this was important for anyone who has an allergy to know.
We placed an order with this restaurant through Skip the Dishes. A member of our family has a severe shellfish allergy, and it was noted for every dish and to avoid cross contamination. One of the dishes we ordered included shrimp and we asked for a substitute because of the shellfish allergy.
The order came and we couldn't see any shrimp in the dish, so the individual ate a portion of the dish. On going for seconds, they noticed shrimp at the bottom of the container.
We immediately confirmed the order on SKP and then called the restaurant, who also confirmed that it was on the order they received but told us 'the kitchen made a mistake'. They offered us a credit on our next order, thinking this would be a way of apologizing.
If you've ever had allergies, you know how serious they can be. Luckily, the individual didn't eat any of the shrimp and only had a mild reaction due to the cross-contamination in the dish, which they were able to control with a a few allergy pills.
We've been ordering food from different restaurants for years, always noting the allergy without any issues. Some restaurants go over and above when they hear someone has an allergy. We're going through a pandemic right now, and this is NOT the time to end up in a hospital because of an allergy that could have been avoided. If they can't take care in preparing food for people with allergies, how can we know that they are taking every precaution with everyone's order during...
Read more05/17/2024. We had an interesting yet gross 🤢 experience. Four of us visited Phoenix Square for dinner. The restaurant is bright with clean washrooms and very friendly staff. We had the buffet which had a large selection of dishes. The buffet was kept well stocked but not overly full to ensure that everything was fresh. It is the first time I have been to a buffet where there is ice cream of various flavours for dessert. I’m a big fan of Rainbow ice cream and they had some. This was the best part of the evening at the restaurant. Now for the bad news. While eating the fried rice I noticed something hard in my mouth. I took it out only to find a crown of a tooth. As I had a crown put on at the dentist a day earlier I thought it was that crown. When I got home I check so did my better half only to find the crown was still in place. OMG the crown was from the Chinese food at the restaurant, yuck! Someone in the kitchen at the restaurant had a crown fall out of their mouth and I ended up in the fried rice. 🤢🤮then I my mouth! This GROSS! I noticed that the crown was gold so I took the time to weight it. It weighted about 2 grams. I believe that the gold portion of the crown was about 1 gram or around $76 USD. Even though the $76 is worth more than the meal I know there are 4 people who will NEVER return to that restaurant. 🤮🤢 Yes one...
