I had always been curious about trying out Gols Lan Zhou Noodle on Pembina, Winnipeg. Finally, one evening, completely out of the blue, my family and I decided to have dinner there at around 9 pm. As we walked in, the waiter took us in, although his welcome didn't exactly feel warm and inviting. He quickly informed us that the restaurant would be closing at 9:30 pm and asked us to place our order and pay in advance. I agreed and proceeded to place our order.
The noodles we ordered were a mixed bag. The thin noodle dish was well-cooked and delicious, but the thicker noodle dish left much to be desired. Despite the inconsistency in the food, I must admit that the flavors were quite enjoyable.
To our surprise, when we asked for utensils beyond the chopsticks provided, the waiter refused to provide additional plates, offering only a soup bowl. This left us struggling to eat our dishes. It was only after my wife called him over that he begrudgingly brought us forks.
While the food was indeed tasty, the service was nothing short of deplorable. The lack of courtesy and willingness to accommodate customers' requests was disappointing, to say the least. Even though I thought leaving a good tip might improve their attitude, it didn't. Their overall service was well below par.
On a positive note, the restaurant's interior decor was pleasing, and I did express my appreciation to the chef for the food. However, the person who took our order and payment seriously needs to work on his customer service skills and take pride in serving guests.
Throughout the evening, I couldn't help but get a sense of being mistreated. The combination of the unwelcoming welcome, the refusal to provide additional utensils, and the overall lackluster service left me with a feeling of disappointment and dissatisfaction and we have no intention of returning there...
Read moreThe pulled noodle soup is good and on occasion me and my family visit so we can support local restaurants and it's close location from where we live. We visited a few days ago and had the worse service from the lady at the front desk. I usually pay but this time my daughter's wanted to pay for themselves. While my daughter was paying the lady noticed that she didn't place a tip on the machine, so she commented "why no tip, my manager wants to know when people don't tip", so my daughter just replied, I can add a tip, just re-enter it on the machine, and she did. Me and my wife looked at each other shocked, this lady, I thinks she's the manager because she's always the same person that works the front, just criticized our daughter in public (There were other people in line) for not tipping. I was going to give a 20% tip anyways which I thought would of been enough, but the way she treated my kid was absolutely rude. I stayed patient and said no word. So, because of what happened, I left zero tip. There are so many other local restaurants in my area and we chose this place to spend our money. With a disgusting washroom that we can't use, and even last December when it was shut down for days by health inspectors, we still continued to support Gol's. Now, because of how we were treated on our last visit, we will never again support...
Read moreI’ve been there many times and though the options on the menu are limited, things we have tried were all pretty delicious. However, we won’t be going back. Reason being the last time I was there I saw a kitchen staff used the bathroom but didn’t wash her hands before returning to the kitchen. Pretty shocked by what I saw, I spoke with our server who went away to find out who the lady was and came back said the lady only handles dish cleaning duties and doesn’t get involved in the food making process so not washing hands was not an issue. I politely disagreed of course. Needless to say, washing hands after using the bathroom is one of the most basic hygiene requirements a restaurant should have, let alone someone who works in the kitchen and will most certainly at some point touch the same surface as the cooks do. The server handled the situation as well as he could I thought and said he’ll pass the message to the owner. I’m not sure if the message has been passed on but after a recent documentary about food safety I’ve watched, I feel like it’s important that the message is passed and hopefully, with the right conscience, set clear rules about hygienes amongst...
