The staff were attentive and helpful absolutely no complaints. We came at shift change and it was done seamlessly. Both waitresses were great. One actually brought out a refill of our drinks without us asking.
My partner and I came for a late lunch and ordered one 3 option appetizer and one 5 option appetizer, so we both ended up with 4 items. Portions are notably small for menu items that boast “sharing” them. I was very disappointed in the Calamity Bites they are just not good, very fishy tasting. I couldn’t finish them and didn’t want to take them home as leftovers either. I had assumed they were clam strips like other places but in fact they are just deep fried baby clams. The Calamari was average. The Deep Fried Pickles were good but a very small portion, 3 pickle quarters is not even one whole pickle which is kind of laughable. The Crispy Pacific Shrimp were tasty but again a very small portion we could easily have enjoyed double or triple the amount. The Pickerel Wings were really awful, lots of bones and just totally unappetizing they just really miss the mark. Shrimp and Lobster Mac and Cheese was tasty but again very small bowl. The only thing that came out in any abundance was the Garlic Bread, which in reality was really nothing special.
Also kind of felt like we were in a “fun house” at a carnival with the sloping floors. That was very strange indeed.
So all and all the service was well done but the food left a little too much...
Read moreWent for dinner the other day.
Spent effectively $45 per person (with tip) for 2 pieces of oily battered fish (cod), soup and a soft drink. Other meals were more with similar sentiments.
The $10 chowder had a piece of potato and mostly what seemed like puree. The crackers were the most textural component. Where are the clams? Amazingly small portions.
Fish was greasy, overdone. Not sure how that isn't obvious to the "chef".
French fries consisted mostly of small pieces / ends. Again, tiny portion. Some pieces had seemingly been through the fryer a few times - blackened or saturated. You know what I'm talking about. Served in a plastic container to look substantive. All on a metal tray lying on brown paper. Thats the dinner. $45.
Oh yeah, $3 for a small ramekin of coleslaw. I passed.
Service was ok. Restaurant and bathroom were clean.
I feel for this owner somewhat as they are stuck for supply, portions and pricing likely, but could do better with what they have: Like fry the fish properly and learn to make soup.
Corporate head office bean counters should be removed. Not expecting free, but do expect some value. Figure it out again.
I remember Joeys when it first came out. This is a shadow of itself. Too bad.
Bottom line: Head office, you are just as responsible if this...
Read moreToday I had a hankering for fish, and I never ate at a Joey’s before, so I just had to try it — my day was already down in the dumps, so I was already in the mood to just try something new, so I walk in and am greeted at the front by my server, Jessica, and golly, she went above and beyond. I have never received such amazing service — she made sure I was fully taken care of and even catered to my unusual request of unsweetened iced tea (literally steeped tea on ice)! Even with it being busy, she was quick, very professional, and managed to be conversational (and honestly made my day better) — it’s very clear she cares a lot about what she does, and I would rate more than five stars for her service if I could.
As for food, I got the salmon with fries and Caesar Salad — while the salmon was a bit on the dry side, it was still a good salmon nonetheless. The Caesar Salad was really good — good amount of dressing, good dressing too, and that’s coming from someone who always enjoys that particular salad! The fries were nice and crisp — I didn’t know that they were also all-you-can-eat! Who knew!!! I also had a no-bake cheesecake dessert, which was fantastic.
Definitely a good place to dine overall if you ever get the...
