Came in, was greeted. Water came out and one glass had a floaty in it. Ignored it. Ordered the Crab burger advertised for burger week. Came out in 5 mins after ordering and it was not hot. How is this even possible?? Ordered rangoon and it was filled with some sort of potato filling and not the typical cream cheese/crab filling served at Thai restaurants. My partner ordered a Thai red curry dish which was sweet and not spicy like how the traditional dish normally is. Broccoli in it was undercooked, ripped in half, with stems still attached. Gave it another chance and ordered their frites (fries) which came out soggy and did not look like the picture in their menu which advertised black sesame seeds and herbs sprinkled on top. Asked the waitress and she told me they ran out. Sent that back. Should also mention that our cutlery was never brought to us after the food came out, even after we asked. Had to go up to the counter and get it ourselves since they forgot again. We were the only ones dining at that point. It seems that they are too busy with their take out/Skipthedishes orders that the service for the customers in the actual restaurant is non-existent.
I was really excited to try this place as the pictures looked great online. I love Asian and Asian fusion cuisine in particular but this place did not leave me with a good impression. I am Asian myself!! The Thai food was definitely NOT authentic. This is my first time posting a bad review on anything. I have years of experience working in the restaurant/dining industry and am very understanding and patient when it comes to these things. But this was easily the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. It ruined my mood for the rest of the evening. I would give 0 stars if that was an option.
The intent of this review is not to bash the restaurant. But to allow for the owner to take a look at some of the negatives and hopefully greatly improve on the quality of food and service before others...
Read moreI've frequented Kyu Bochi for years, and it has long been my favourite spot for Thai curries. I acknowledge that there's been a surge in food costs recently, and I've observed this reflected in their significantly increased menu prices. Historically, their curry was rich and creamy, brimming with vegetables, protein, peanuts, and basil. I would often commend the pleasant detail of a swirl of fresh coconut milk on top. However, recently, I was astounded by the marked decline in the quality of their Massamam curry.
The bowl contained scant solid ingredients, devoid of peanuts or fresh herbs, but most startling was the curry's stretchy texture, eerily reminiscent of a translucent cheese fondue. The sauce stretched several inches from the ladle, and my children were quick to comment that it resembled snot! When we shook the bowl from side to side, the curry quivered like a pudding! The flavour profile was also off; I couldn't discern the taste of natural coconut milk. When we expressed our concerns to the management, their justification was that they'd used the wrong "thickening agent," namely tapioca starch. Regrettably, no discount was provided, nor was an apology. We followed up to reiterate our dismay over the shocking drop in quality, but Kyu Bochi refused to acknowledge our grievances.
First off, this isn't a gravy - why is there a need for a thickening agent when coconut milk naturally thickens on its own? Was this curry even made with real coconut milk, or was it a flavoured concoction thickened to create a poor-man's imitation of coconut curry? Also, how can they justify charging nearly $20 for this?
Regardless, while I understand that occasional lapses in quality control can happen, the management's indifferent disregard is enough to prompt me to redirect my future dining...
Read moreI get it. Mistakes happen, but the way this restaurant helped to solve my problem is above and beyond what I'd expect. At first, I would have given the rating. Maybe a 2 stars had I just dealt with skip the dishes on the half order I received. I ordered the red chicken curry meal, which says it comes with rice on the menu, but all I received was like a thick soup, which is not what I ordered, no rice and no cutlery. Had I been at home.i could have easily made do with my own rice and cutlery, but I was at a hotel for spring break with family. So I immediately called the restaurant and spoke with the manager Krystina, she apologized profusely and told me they had some new staff who were in training and she would fix and make a whole new order for pick up. BUT Since I ordered through skip I had to deal with their customer service to go pick up the new meal, when i contacted their customer service they were rude and didn't when refund me the whole amount or send a driver to pick up and drop off my order. So I called the restaurant back and this is when I was blown away with how amazing the customer service is at KYU, Krystina told me she would get someone to drive to my hotel with my new meal(they don't do delivery) and she even threw in a few extras..beyond impressed and the food turned out amazing. I will be referring to family and friends and...
