Pho Hoang Sargent — Restaurant in Winnipeg

Heard great things... It is not great at all. No food is worth the way me and my family were treated. We ordered appetizers..they delivered them to the table with no plates, no cutlery, no napkins...just appetizers in the middle of the table. She came back to take our order, I asked if we could have some cutlery and napkins. We all felt very awkward and not welcome at all. We ordered 4 dishes to share, the cutlery and napkins arrived with the food. I guess we were supposed to just eat the appetizers camping style like that. Sure, we can wing it! 😂

As we're in the middle of the meal, our server came over and sternly informed us the restaurant was closed and asked if we'd like to go containers. The couple at the table next to us had their food delivered after ours and they were informed of the closing time and asked to take their food to go as well. Unreal!!

The service was absolutely horrible from all of the staff. We hadn't even packed up the food and she arrived back at the table with the bill and a debit machine and looked at us with a 'it's time to pay, DUH' look on her face. This is some of the worst service I've ever encountered at a restaurant and I will never...

Following the recommendations of a couple of co-workers and seeing the high review ranking, my guest and I were excited to try out this "must eat" location. We were underwhelmed to say the least. Let's start with the first red flag: I ordered a tea...it was brought to our table in a mug. No tea pot, just a mug of tea. My guest ordered a Pepsi. A can of Pepsi was brought to us...no glass, no straw. I'm willing to bypass this and just attribute it to how the service operates at this location. The food will be my deciding factor on whether to return. I ordered the sugar cane shrimp for an appetizer, and as the photo shows, this was very disappointing. (Another red flag). But hey, I'm here for the Pho, and this should make things better... The Pho was indeed awesome! I would definitely rank it as one of the better tasting Pho that I have had, but is it enough to prod me to look past the other concerns? I'm on the fence, to be honest. I'll probably return, but only because someone else wants me to go with them. I won't say "no", but I also won't suggest this location if they ask me where I'd like to...

Updated review: Food is as good as ever. They did a redesign again. The lights change a lot. I'll post updated pictures of the dining room. Service was excellent this time!

------ previous review It's been awhile since I've been back. This was my favorite Vietnamese restaurant though in the past. They've done some redecorating and the lantern lights look spectacular. Food was solid as I remembered. When I had spoken to the owners years ago she had assured me they did not use any msg. They were originally from Calgary. The restaurant has done grown and they have also taken up the pizza location that was next door and opened up a banh mi go place. The service was kind of terrible. We were waiting for a long time to order, for our Waters, for all the utensils we needed to eat the food after it arrived. There were no checks done for quality assurance and Waters were not refilled after. However due to my past loyalty and appreciation I didn't drag it to anything lower and am hoping that was a one time thing that will eventually be corrected.
