El Izalco — Local services in Winnipeg

Love this place for all of the stuff they have, and it’s one of the only places I can get ingredients for dishes from my home country.

I bought a piñata for my birthday, and when my kids and partner wanted to fill it with candy a bunch of cockroaches jumped up. I called them immediately (I was not home at the time) to let them know I wanted a refund. I came a few days later to collect, and they refused to give me one because I didn’t have the piñata with me. I understand they’re a small business, but I think it’s unrealistic to expect someone to haul back a roach infested item so they can verify their roaches. I’ve shopped here many times, and so has my family, and it’s absurd that they would assume I’d be lying to them.

Very disappointed with this experience. This also, of course means I spent another 30$ on traps for cockroaches I never had before. Not even a few...

Im a little embarrassed typing this cause i thought ok im gonna get some good food here. I was wrong, i asked for chorizo....they had some that was frozen for more than two years?? I politely declined them. Went to the other freezer picked out some corn tamales that were frozen....seriously 2 years old and it was not cheap. Man so disappointing normally i give good reviews but i cant forgive selling expired food. You should really store something like this for 6 months after the expiration date. I threw away the entire bag. Lesson lesrned check the expiration date...

Went in for a few items and walked out with more than I expected! Sarah and her husband (so sorry I forget your name) were so friendly from the moment I walked in. Not only was I able to buy ingredients I have been looking for for a long time but also bought pre made items to have on hand for the nights I don't feel like cooking. I'm sorry it took me so long to find this little loaded gem of a store but they forgave me as I did not grow up in Winnipeg lol... will be going back quite often...
