After many wonderful comments from a family member, we finally decided to try Sizzling Dhaba. We were thoroughly disappointed. We opted for the buffet. From the moment I opened the lid on the very first item, which was rice, I knew it was going to be a bad experience. The rice, what was left of it, was literally swimming in so much oil, I actually thought it was water. And it was incredibly hard and crunchy. There were a number of other dishes, most of which were grossly under seasoned. The only thing on the buffet worth going back for was the beef vindaloo, that was up until we found a long, black hair in it . We were offered an order of naan, and I asked if they had garlic naan. We were told that they did and that's what we ordered. The naan came to the table and was saturated with oil or ghee ... like swimming in it! There was absolutely zero garlic anywhere to be found. And quite frankly the texture of the naan resembled something you would buy at Sobeys in the bakery department. The restaurant is extremely cramped. There is hardly anywhere to walk around the tables, and on a busy evening such as the night that we were there, it's almost impossible to navigate from your table to the buffet without rubbing shoulder to shoulder with someone. I will say that the service is friendly, and reasonably attentive. It was obvious from the patrons that were there that they do a fair amount of repeat business as many people that entered were greeted often by name, and very courteously. What's also obvious is that there are very few Indian people eating in this restaurant. Enough said. Also interesting that the vast majority of one star ratings for this restaurant all come from Indian people. I wonder why... There are plenty of Great Indian restaurants in Winnipeg that I would much rather spend my money at than to ever return to...
Read moreAbsolutely horrendous customer service from the get go. Read the reviews before you go there, because chances are you are going to regret it. The middle-aged lady Sunita Nagpal; who apparently is one of the owner(!) of the restaurant is the MOST rudest person I have met in my life. While me and my friend were waiting a good 20 minutes for only four samosas, we thought we should just get this other item to eat since I was too hungry and the wait seemed to be long for me to bear it; keep in mind that long wait time is not uncommon there; I have been there in the past as well and even then we had to wait about 20-30 minutes to get just a couple of samosas. Anyways; so I asked for the lady a couple of times since she was gone in the back(which she does routinely as well; and for long periods of time at that) but no response(again, not uncommon); then after sometime my friend called her again and there she came. I asked her if the price of the item is 2 bucks for 5 items which is what me and my friend felt she said at the beginning; but apparently it was 2 items for 5 bucks; a simple misunderstanding right? No, because she paused for a couple of seconds after replying and then said "YOU EXPECT THOSE TO BE 2 FOR 5 WHEN OUR SAMOSAS ARE $1.50 EACH??" I was baffled for a second and thought I heard it wrong, but I wasn't. What then ensued should just be left unsaid, for what I have written should be enough for everyone to know what being a customer at Sizzling Dhaba is like, and that you go there at your self-esteem's peril. Oh and by the way; I had upset stomach after I ate those...
Read moreI had not been there since before COVID. What a big Disappointment it was. I would give no star if I could. I had not eaten out for a long time and wanted to have a pleasant dining experience with service. What I got was anything but. The food quality was awful, served luke warm to cold on a tin foil try like frozen dinners. The mango lahse was just a mango drink poured from a box or bottle and put in a cheap plastic glass. I could have gotten better at home in a glass. The owner server dumped this disgusting meal on the table and never came out from the back after that. She never asked how it was. The signage was deceptive. I thought it was a lot less than it was. It was actualy 3x more expensive. I would never have dined there had I known that. When I commented on the signage, the owner server got huffy and snapped at me. Very unprofessional. She could barely even come from the back to collect payment. She did not offer a refund or partial refund of any kind. She did not offer an apology. She angrily shoved 2 oversized greasy samosas in a thin paper bag as compensation. She did not ask me if I wanted them. I did not. I had gone there many times before the pandemic when the food quality and service was much better. I knew as I walked out the door that this was be my last time there. A waste of time and money, completely...
